New stereo issues

Hi guys,

I'm new here, so hello all. The problem I'm having is my new stereo, i have an 04 1.3 MJD model, I want to improve the sound system, which is currently the standard Blaupunkt CD/MP3 one. I have removed that system, and the other one is in, it's a Clarion and fits in fine. Innect all the wires and when a disk is put into it i hear the whirring implying there is infact power going to the unit, but it shortly spits out the disk. However, when i attempt to turn the front panel on nothing at all happens.

I really am confused over this, and it's kinda irritating as i've an amp and eventually a sub to connect up. Any help at all would be appreciated. Thx!

Re: New stereo issues

if it is a motored input like you make it sound then all the feeds are working fine. sounds like a problem with the laser or disc. not much you can do unless you claim off the guarantee or get it to someone who can repair it. check other discs and try the radio and let us know what happens

Re: New stereo issues

yea the front panel is what gets me. make sure theres power running into the live and ignition feed just incase yours only has a live feed. your head unit may have the ability to accept discs with just one feed but will not function until it is switched on by ignition

simply join red and yellow wires and see if this works

Re: New stereo issues

Right, found the problem , just can't solve it lol. Basically, the pink power cable in the ISO block is running to nothing in the new stereo, and needs to be moved into another area of the block to connect to a pin in the new stereo, which will then allow all power to be going to the stereo, thus letting the head unit be turned on.

However, can't get the damn wire out the ISO block, is well and truly stuck. Anyway to get these out?

Re: New stereo issues

how did you figure that one out?

this sounds like a case of live or ignition in the wrong place but pink is usually either the mute or handbrake line? what stereo are you putting in

to remove the pins theres a small metal tab inside the iso block. you have to push this tab down to let the pin slide out. this is usually done with a small flat head screwdriver. eitherwise just pull on the wire and the tab will bend backways until the pin comes out

Re: New stereo issues

Well, tbf i didn't figure it out. Went to halfords to see if they had an adaptor for it, he thought he had but it didn't work so i took it back. He said OK, close to closing now so come back in a couple of days and I'll look at it for you. So went back earlier today, and he said ye that's the problem. May not be a pink wire thinking about it, but that's definitely the problem anyway, just needs moving. Also, he didn't charge me, quality geezer .

OK thx mate, will try getting it out again tomorrow morning. Ohh, and the new stereo is a Clarion something, can't recall model name and box is in the boot. Ermm, hoping to add an amp too, Blaupunkt GTA 4 MKII at some point, already bought that and then a sub. Which I will buy next month depending on how much my summer holidays costs me lol.

Re: New stereo issues

ah a good halfords story for a change lol

rite the reason i asked what stereo is if it is a dvd player, cos that would be the reason there was the extra pink wire not attached to anything

rite hes bound to have noticed by now that there no ignition feed. there no adapter you can buy tbh. an adapter cant create a feed. only way i can think of sorting it is joining the red and yellow (live and ignition feed) and the radio will be permanently active so you can switch it on and off whenever you please which sounds like what your looking

if you want to switch it on and off with your key just follow my guide in the stilo section to create the ignition feed, not sure if this is your car but principle is the same

Re: New stereo issues

Right, works when the ignition is off now. As soon as the engine comes on it cuts out and wont let the headunit turn back on. So, kinda pointless having it lol, god damn thing!

Try swapping the red and the yellow wires over looks like the feed is cutting out.
I havnt read the whole thread so have you changed any of the wires around all ready because it sounds like you may have wired it to a time delay loom that only works with the ignition off.
If you have any spare wire disconnect the red one and connect it to the battery so we at least can narrow it down to the ignition feed.

Re: New stereo issues

Ive changed wire round, at first the stereo did not power up at all. I moved a power cable, to a new slot and it now powers on but as i say only with the ignition off.

Will look at it again tomorrow in more detail, referring to the stereo guide point saying what is what. Will let you know how i get on.

Right guys, you reckon that is what i need to do? Cause i still cant get it working, i want to break down and cry lol. Or just get it sorted. If doing an ignition feed, it should surely power the head unit when the engine is running?
