Re: ground loop islolator

thats strange. these things usually work a treat.
defnitly connected the right way?
check continuity between the connections

have you checked for the reasons for interferance?

is the audio cables running along the same side as the power wires?
do they cross any of the electrical supply wires?

Re: ground loop islolator

yes the wires run down the same side of the car thats where the interference is coming from but to be honest i'm more concerned about why the GLI isn't allowing the sub to work

Re: ground loop islolator

with ground loop isolators you loose a bit of the signal as theyre not 100% effective but there may be a connection break inside it? thats why i said check the continuity to see that a flow is still going from one end to the other

also i take it your using pre outs. due to the low frequency output of these it may have more of an effect on the signal than speakers but you shud still hear something

Re: ground loop islolator

you need to put the ground loop isolator on the rca lead which is used for the speakers mate it cripples the subwoofer output else

Re: ground loop islolator

it is plugged into the amp that's powering the sub, the sub works fine when the GLI is unplugged but doesn't work at all when it is plugged in,yeas it is plugged into the rca leads

Re: ground loop islolator

you wont get a continuity reading from one side to the other on a GLI - they work through electromagnetism and induction and so are completely isolated (hence ground loop isolator ) if they did have continuity, that would defeat the whole objective.

Because they work through induction, and low frequency signals at such a low current produce very little electromagnetism, so they arn't really ideal with subs. Also, due to the secondary coil within the GLI, some subs just detect it as a short and cut out - check to see if the amp has a fault light and if it is illuminated.

I may write a guide on GLIs, seems to be a lot of confusion regarding them. Personally i dislike GLIs because as i've mentioned many times before, there not 100% efficient, often causing excessive signal drain, and so reduce sound quality. Its like seeing rust on a car and just painting over it - the final result is not as good as it would be if you tackled the root of the problem.

Re: ground loop islolator

xen i would actually like to read that. i read the packaging and guide and have installed them. though i have never took them apart to see how they work so this would be a good read
