Little help with Punto Mk2 (03) speakers please :)

Hey everyone! This is my first post in the forum so excuse any mistakes I make

Anyway, onto the topic, I have a problem.

I am currently looking to replace my front door speakers in my Punto (Mk2 2003 in case you missed the topic title), and am looking for some replacements.

Now, getting them out isn't and issue as i've already had most of the door off , thank god for the Haynes manuals .

Only problem ive got is, I want a nice simple swap over if possible, just but a new set, take the old ones out, and screw the new ones in the same place, without any faff.

What I need to know is, what size are the current speakers? Ive measured them, and found a result of 165mm, or their about, which if im right equates to about 6.5 inches, but im not entirely sure im right. So my question is, are the speakers 165mm (6.5 inch), or would I have to get a 170mm speaker instead?

Last but not least, does anybody happen to know the mounting depth in the doors, becuase the last thing I want to do is find a good pair of speakers and then realise they are too deep for the doors

Any help, (and even speaker recommendations!) would be greatly apprieciated guys.

there are hundreds of 165mm speakers available and im not sure off hand but this is likely to be the size as a lot of fiats car in the last few years have commonly had 165mm speakers

in terms of depth, this is usually quite hard to obtain as no speaker manafacturer has it listed and its not exactly on fiat specs so without someone measuring its hard to know. im sure theres a few punto owners will tell ya what theyve got and what fits etc. There are how ever adapters available to fit your and leave you with a bigger depth and the right holes to fit a new speaker. one of the cheapest place is nexxia. yours is a few down in this page: http://www.nexxia.co.uk/Speaker_adaptors/fiat.htm

Thanks j0nny I apprieciate your help, but i've just thought of another slight problem. By my reckoning, 165mm is 6.5 inches, but a lot of these aftermarket speakers say things like "6.5 inch/17cm" (obviously 170mm), you that still be the right size speaker? Or would it have to be a 6.5 inch/165mm?

when on our audio board our measurements are all give in metric and on the packaging this is usually the main dimension and sometimes helps defnite the product name, the imperial measurement is only given for handiness of people who still use the old system. so you shud be able to find out very easily what size the speaker is. 16.5cm is very common, my car's four and ive a few in the house. lot of makes produce their range in all sizes so this most certainly will be included

EDIT: 17cm speakers are made too, just to clarify. example, alpine type r components are made in both 16.5cm and 17cm, theyre different sizes and 17 wont fit in 16.5cm hole without minor modification. plus theyre prob going to have a bigger depth due to being that bit bigger.

Wot just get 6.5 inch speakers they fit if you get the infinity components they do. a shallow magnet so they will fit

the mounting depth is about 46mm with the windows down

can get a few more mm using the autoleads speaker adapters, or making your own door pods

are you after component speakers?

Thanks for the replies guys, and to answer the questions, I think I would prefer some coxials, as they seem easier to fit than a set of components, at least until I feel a bit more confident with fitting speakers.

An suggestions for a good set then? (Anything under £100 if possible please)
