Will the alternator cope

I plan to fit an alpine MRD M501 Monoblock amp, its about 500w rms & has 2 x 30amp fuses on it so may draw upto 60 Amps,, will the alternator on my 2007 GP 1.2 Active cope with the added strain?

Re: Will the alternator cope

That 60 amps is the absolute maximum, 0db test tone with wind behind it draw.

In reality, playing music it's going pull around 20ish.

No that should be kay, obviously the amp will never really draw 60 Amps otherwise the fuses would blow.
The thing is if you are running 500w RMS then you would be planning to add another amp to run the other speakers in the car (yes) then there is a possibility of getting a little bit of trouble but you can upgrade the wires going to and from the alternator and upgrade the battery before you consider a new alternator there is no point in trying to distribute more power if you dont have the wiring and power to do it.
I am running just under 2KW atm and have done none of the above and have had no major problems (yet) and i really dont notice any power loss apart from the dimming of the lights which is no big deal. I will eventually do it all second battery in boot and everything but why waste your money when you could spend the money that you would have spent on decent stuff like some components and an amp.

Cheers, i will put a power cap beside the bass amp to help it along, i also have a 4 channel alpine v12 amp but have no plans to fit it as the sound/volume im getting from the standard speakers is quite good so far.

Cheers

Yes but that is not exactly the highest power of systems and if you drive with the whole system off i bet that you will notice a difference in the performance of the Car.
Is it you that used to have this system in an Opel Kadet.

Any way back on topic dooooooooooont bother with the cap unless you have it already lying around they are pointless. Do a search on here for some more comprehensive info.
All in favour of banning the word Power Cap on this forum.
