| PS2 turning off :S dose anybody know what the problem could be? I fitted a slimline ps2 in my punto and also fitted a flip out monitor. The monitor is running straight off the battery no problem, but I have cut off the ciggy lighter bit an hard wired the adaptor for the ps2 to the back of the ciggy lighter. but when I turn it on it stays on for about 20 seconds then turns off im confused haha

| *custom name* | Re: PS2 turning off :S 3 things i can think of: earth: these feg lighter was never designed to deal with such power draws therefore a more effective earth would be required for that power: as i said the draw is much larger in the ps2 so the cable probably cant handle the demand and therefore shuts off or goes into safe mode, this happens in amps as well. this sounds the most likely as the 20 seconds would be the start up period before it really starts 2 drain power then when it does need power and cant get it it will switch off air/cooling: the ps2 slimline is renowned for overheating, even in a household environment as a lot of the cooling equipment in the ps2 were taken out for this so in a car this would be emphasised. make sure its kept cool or it will cut off 2 protect itself when it gets too hot

| Gutten Morgan | Re: PS2 turning off :S Yeah wot he said. I would imagine that a transformer works by taking a Starting Voltage ie 240v and then dropping it to what is needed in this case 12v so the transformer will be trying to drop the voltage too much. Also have you considered wiring it up to the ignition and live feed as Cranking will cause spikes that would blow up the PS2 specially with none of the Voltage protection from the transformer. | ||

| Re: PS2 turning off :S all sorted now guys, the slimline only runs at 8.5v btw and to fix the problem just hard wired the "in car adaptor" straigh to the battery with a inline fuse an switch, works perfect now. Think there wasnt enough power being sent to the ciggy lighter, so just cutting out
