for £80, you could get a alright set of components and an amp to power them off ebay, infact my sub, amp and component speakers were under £80 ebays great.

Surely that would depend on what car they are being mounted in...?

Well I've got a set of 100W RMS TriAxial 6x9's on an MDF Stealth(ish, damn fabric stretch...) Shelf, I imagine you'd have to do something similar for the components...? (Ie mount them on a shelf)

Lets be fair, 6x9s are the easiest way to get to get a bit of kick, especially in his car.

I heard some MTX 6x9s in a stand the other day and was really impressed with them, bassy as hell.

I'm using Infinity Refernce 9236i's but no amp, and I dont want to get an amp sorted until I've changed the headunit.

Still, the improvement over the stock speakers is just immense!

I agree with paul on this one sometimes 6x9's do have a purpose and if the guy doesnt want to go for big sub and amp options this is the easiest solution.
Ideally you would get some GT doorcards but i should imagine these are getting pretty rare by now from the amount of people that i have seen getting hold of them. But this would be a fairly large cost for very little gain if he is only thinking smalltime.
