New ICE Kit Recomendations

Hi all,

I picked up my Bravo HGT yesterday and now I have the task of upgrading the dated ICE system, this is the spec that I intend on putting in the car:

Head Unit
I'm unsure on what head unit to get apart from the Alpine iDA-X100 Digital Media Receiver, any other recomendations?
My Requirements: Single DIN, USB Interface (for Flash Drive/HDD), 4x50Watt Amp, Flashy looky Screen (2"+), Budget upto £300
>I don't currently own an iPod atm so it's not a buying point for me but I guess it would be handy as a few of my mates have them.
>>I have No use for a CD Player.

Front Speakers (Powered by Head Unit)
In Phase XT5C 200W (50W RMS) Component Speakers @ £99.99

Rear Speakers (Powered by Head Unit)
In Phase XT42ND 160 Watts 2-way Neodymium Speakers @ £49.99

SUBs (Powered by Amp)
In Phase XT12 2800 Watts Double Subwoofer Pack & Bass Box @ £179.99

AMP
In Phase IPA900 1200W 2 channel amplifier @ £139.99

Amp Wiring Kit
In Phase IP101 1200W Amplifier Fitting Kit @ £29.99

Power Cap
LEGACY LCA160SC 1.6 Farad DIGITAL Power Capacitor @ £31.94
OR
LEGACY LCA280SL 2.8 Farad DIGITAL Power Capacitor @ £58.48

My other questions are:
1) What size PowerCap will I need for my Amp & Sub combination; the 1.6, 2.8 or higher?

2) Is the 1200Watt Amp Wiring Kit powerful enough considering the Amp is rated at 1200Watts or do I require leeway with the wiring, say an 1800Watt Kit?

3) Does anyone see any problems with the above kit combination or suggest better alternatives?

TIA, James.

Just a thought, for all that money http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/pro...s_id/4640.html

I don't really know about power caps. I'm only running 1000W Mono Amp with 1500W Sub. Keep us updated.

Not a bad deal, but would prefer a Dual Chanel amp to go with dual subs, thanks anyway.

Space & Weight are pretty much the same as the InPhase kit, it is cheaper though I'll give you that.

Re: New ICE Kit Recomendations

in terms of the power cap, its not entirely adequate but will help out the system a bit, 2.8 farad isnt bad for that money and will do its job when needed, ive had a thread on it a few months back and theres an active thread at the minute where me and stu give a pretty good analysis on them so you can read up on that, lol

the headunit is fantastic, i really like it, though theyre bringing out new stuff, same range just new models producing something like 4x70 watts , bigger internal amp due to lack of cd drive, ive seen them with a 120gb drive, 80gb ipod attached and theyre excellent, cant fault them

o and one more thing, in my opinion those wiring kits are rubbish for theyre money, what matters most if the gauge of the wiring as that will pretty much determine the current flow through it, you will need at least 4 gauge for a system like that, 0 gauge is usually stupid money. o and you can pick up 2 4gauge wiring kits for that sort of money

Re: New ICE Kit Recomendations

You don't need a power cap, or rear speakers.

I like the look of the HU though, although I reckon you can do better for your money for the rest of the kit.

The wiring kit would be inadequate - it's only 10awg, so would only be good for an amp rated at 20A or so.

Re: New ICE Kit Recomendations

Revised Setup:
Head Unit
Alpine iDA-X100 Digital Media Receiver

Front Speakers (Powered by AMP 1)
Alpine SPR-13S 13cm Component Speakers 300 Wtts (100W RMS) @ £103.99

No Rear Speakers

AMP 1 (Powering Front Speakers)
Pioneer GM 5300T 760W 2 Channel Amplifier [190 watts RMS x 2 at 2 ohms] @ £98.99
OR
Alpine MRV T320 220W 2 Channel Amplifier [110 watts RMS x 2 at 2 ohms] @ £117.00

SUB & Amp Kit
FLI Audio Active Trap 12 Twin @ £124.99
OR
Kenwood 2 x KFC-W3011 + KAC-7203 + BX212P + JW1000 @ £149.99
OR
Kenwood KFC-W3011 x 2 + KAC-8103D + BOX + 4AWG AMP KIT @ £249.00
OR
Alpine SWR-1242D x 2 + BX212S + MRD-M1005 @ £279.99

Please help me decide on:
1) What AMP to get for the Front Speakers?
2) What Subs & Amp Kit to Buy?
OR Find me a 4 Channel Amp to power 2x 12" SUBS (500-1500W) & the Alpine Component Speakers for around the same price (if not cheaper) than the Alpine SWR Sub Kit & Alpine T320 Amp for the Front Speakers, so £400 Max.

TIA, James

that would be very nice!!

the iDA-X100 is useless without the PXA-H100 processor. you wont even have MediaXpander, Time Correction, Equilizer, Crossover or MultEQ without the PXA-H100 processor. i dream about having a PXA-H100 to play with, but thankfully my headunit has time correction, equilizer and crossover built in (alpine cda-9855)

Re: New ICE Kit Recomendations

I cant believe no one has said No power Cap and No Fli Cheap crap. The Inphase 12" subs can take 600w RMS and they really can so if your getting 2 then wire them into a 1 ohm stable amp. All a bit trivial now tho.
