Re: what company is best?

I can only say ALPINE ALPINE ALPINE. Didn't need to spend anywhere near the amount i did on 4door speakers, sub and amp. If i had know how good the amp and sub would work i would have only spent 250 on them. If your wanting a huge amount of bass....the alpine set gives you 10times more than your looking for

Get yourself on caraudiosecurity.com. Do very good sub + amp packages. And they are more than helpful if your ring with questions

I was going to try and fit 2 15" Kicker L5'S into the boot of a stilo but i can get just the same sound out of One sub installed and set up properly (I hope)

Damn right there Volxstu. I was getting 2 of the new 12" Alpine subs. Guy from car audio said there was no point in getting 2. Mono Amp does the job to perfection. I would advice getting premade boxed aswell. Nice and air tight. Unless you like your RnB and HiP HoP and get them HUGE boxes with the hole thingy in.

Even a 12" should be ported for most applications. There would be a point in getting 2 as long as the boxes are built to the right size but having less air space will lessen the effect of what you have. Most of the prefab boxes are the wrong size as they are made for Universal applications. I have not found a box that could do my sub Justice so i always make my own. A box is a box is a box you are not going to loose any noticable sound difference if you seal it with silicon you will have the same as any prefab just made to the right size. The maths is a bit difficult as you need to take the loss of airspace from the thickness of the wood and mine has angles as i have tailored it to sit against the back seat.

Re: what company is best?

My point was that to have 3 15" subs you would need something like 18 ft of airspace and i dont know many cars who's boot even contains 18 cu ft let alone showing off amps, line drivers, distribution blocks, numerous batteries that you would need to run them. It would all be for show unless they have taken out the back seats on the worlds largest Hatchback car. It will all be for bling value nothing to do with SPL or Sq otherwise they would have used 10" subs if they wanted the best SQ.

Re: what company is best?

gotta be alpine, alpine head units are nice, plus you can run your ipod off of them too, and its a good thing making all the chavs who seem to drive around in their corsas and have crap stereo's in a tad jealous, sony speakers are crap, i had sony xplod's in mine up untill recently, changed them to a nice set of jbl gto's and already you can notice the sound diffrence

Well whatever you say Vol. But my sub and amp combined with the large box set to what its at is crystal clear bass that is slowly working the screws out the slot.

Yes but that could just mean that you have undone the screws too many times so you have now worn the holes so i would put some thicker screws in once you know that you have stopped fiddling around with the box for a while. I didnt say that there was anything wrong with your system. My system plays ultra Crystal clear bass but not at the volumes that i want it and the guy with 3 15" subs didnt put them in for sound quality he obv wanted big bass but he is not fullfilling the Potential of the equiptment that he has. But i dont know what car he has or how he has built the setup i just dont see it being correct as there arent many cars that could have that much room to get the pottential out of a system that size also if its in a Hatchback it wouldnt sound very good as it would vibrate the sub and that is quite hard to eradicate unless it is in the back of a booted car.

Re: what company is best?

Depends what size the car is, he might have just put a wall in. Who knows?

Some of you guys need to listen to a PROPER install, just to see how good audio in a car can be. I'm not for one minute suggesting everyone should rush out and spend £000's on an install, but just to give you an idea.

To sit in a car with your eyes closed and almost be able to "see" the band on your dash board is just an experience you don't forget in a hurry.

I've had the fortune to sit in some pretty spectacular cars lately (one was the Focal / BBG demo car) and it has inspired me so much to get the very best I can out of the Panda and hopefully be competitive this year in IASCA and EMMA events.

Re: what company is best?

Yes Paul thats ok but i like bass i dont actually really care much for Mid and Trebble but it has to be there. A bit like a condom on a Friday night really its needed to get full pleasure. I listen to a lot of completely digital music with the addition of a couple of vocals but as long as i can here the mid and trebble enough to define every note then im happy with the bass being put up as far as it doesnt drown out the other notes too much.
And i do agree that sometimes quality is compromised for what i want to achieve but i have been planning to make my system the best that i can do with a given set up as we wouldnt like it easy now, I like a challenge and a D&B addict trying to use a 15" sub is good enough challenge for me. I still reckon that i can pull the SQ back with an 8" Kicker. Plan is to try and get it as close to the middle of the car as is possible any Ideas.

Re: what company is best?

if you want the best of the best, its bose. you can only get them out of audi cars, and its a 5k extra.
other then that, id go
jl <-- defonatly top. no doubt.
alpine,
pioneer,
jbl,
sony,
kenwood,
fli,
fusion <-- cheap and cheerful.

The quality of sound mainly depends on what setup you run,
Im running 2 jl subs pioneer headunit 2 alpine amps, and 4,14cm door speakers, and it sound amazing, booms insanely.

How can you jump from JL to the rest of your list you have gone from one of the Highest Class Manufacturers to Mid Range Manufacturers you have missed the likes of Kicker, Rockford Fosgate not to mention the 100 other companies that come inbetween JL and Alpine.

None of them are as famous as jl, and alpine are way up near jl just cheaper and more affordable.

Re: what company is best?

JL are good, but not the "best", same with Bose, they're OK. For £5k you could do a lot better, that includes paying for installation.
