Switched live feed for head unit

Morning

Another quicky, hopefully.

I've just replaced the head unit, and checked all cables etc are original and they seem to be. All connectors fit fine, and the ISO connector appears to follow standards (it's a Blaupunkt Sevilla HU). I can't see any obvious signs of any previous owner's bodged attempts with snaplocs or whatever...

However, the HU won't switch off with the ignition, as the power feed seems to be continuous, and the HU has to be switched off manually.

Before I rip out the dashboard...

1. Is this normal for a Punto?
2. If not, any advice on how I can make it 'switvched' with the ignition?

Thanks in advance

JB

Re: Switched live feed for head unit

I believe it's a common thing with most Fiat's. Makes you think about removing the front panel though.

Alternative is find a feed from something that comes on with the ignition, somebody did it with their door button lights I believe.

Re: Switched live feed for head unit

most fiats dont come with an ignition feed, so the only way to get a stereo working without adding extra wiring is to keep it on a permanent live, the frustrating thing about this is that it doesnt know when you switch the car on/off so you have to switch it on and off manually. youre best bet is to get an ignition feed from any appliance that switches on with the keys, easiest one is probably the cigarette lighter so run a wire from the live terminal in this to the ignition feed on the stereo and that should do it alright
