Grande Punto Remap Day!

Grande Punto Remap Day!

If everyone is west midlands based I can recommend MPGtuning in Cannock.

I had my 1.9 Mjet remapped and haven't looked back since.

Very professional and although don't do a live map they let me take the car on a test drive straight after the map and i really felt the difference.

We have a company now, waiting for people to confirm january is ok for them. As some of us have mods generic maps wont do as good. P-torque is all custom and done on a rolling road

No advice mentioned of what to do before you go for your remaps so allow me to butt in and give some pointers......

Dont take your cars in with the petrol light on. For live road maps take it with a full tank for rolling road sessions take it with at least 1/2 tank so they dont have to stop what they are doing just to get fuel - in fact some places may turn you away if its got no fuel left! A wasted trip.
Dont take your cars in if its got any coolant issues. Make sure your system is in tip top condition and check the level/top up if nes.
Ensure that your oil is in good condition ie; change it before the remap if youre coming up to a service/ oil/filter change anyway do it now not after the map.
If the oil is fine/after the change, ensure its topped up to the correct level.
Check your tyre pressures are correct.

Enjoy your remaps - they are worth it. I can recommend FCP in Bristol for those that live a bit closer especially for turbo cars.

WHS (y) Good advice.

Seconded on FCP, that's where my 155 was mapped and Leighton is a top man (y)

I honestly don't really know a thing about mapping but what kind of improvements can you expect from having it done?

07 plate GP Sporting 1.4 16V. Had a quick read up about it all and it seemed a bit too good to be true really. Don't understand why more people don't have this done. Are there any problems caused by having it done such as reduced MPG?

It's a waste of money on a naturally aspirated car like yours bud.
You would get hardly any gains at all.

Is it worth almost £300 though??

Everything is worth what someone is prepared to pay at the end of the day. ;)

With respect to gains per pound spent, mapping only comes into its own when one adds various upgrades to the engine, such as intake, exhaust, head porting (NA), FMIC (FI), etc. etc. which a live map can then tell the ECU to make use the best use of.

The OEM ECU doesn't recognise bolt on upgrades and 99% of the time the engine efficiency and power are actually reduced, despite the gains claimed by all of the suppliers of performance aftermarket parts. Therefore a map is required to consolidate all of the upgrades together to achieve efficient running on the engine and hopefully gains in performance.

Mapping a standard car doesn't really provide a justifiable gain against the cost of a live map, with the exception of a forced induction car because the safety margins built in allow for noticeable performance to be gained at 10-30%.....arguably at the expense of reliability though. :)

I'll have a good think through and let you know tomorrow :)

Do you think it's worth doing anything with my EGR first? I've only got a 1.3 90hp, and I can't see it'll be that dirty at all thanks to my rather heavy right foot ;)
