can you explain the purpose of these?

I think it shows that you respect bikes on the road, personally everytime i see a bike in my mirrors i pull over to the side so they can pass easily and as someone who has ridden bikes before its really appreciated if cars do that but some people are so ignorant that they pull further out to the middle just so they can cut you off and cause a potentially fatal accident if they misjudge anything

who does it benefit though?

certainly not the biker who will be looking at the road and escape routes

Not all bikers are as good as others at reading the road. but will still act like they do.

If a biker hangs back from a car well out of any blind spots and just in from the central line where its good for both its not always easy to see what is coming.

I always indicate to bikers to let them know if its clear (left for clear, right for not) and always pull to the side to make it easier.

This sticker is a personal choice as to whether you want to let bikers around you know you respect them and will let them know if you can let them know road visibility. or not.

I thought bikers didn't like it if you pulled to the side of the road, all this does is drag up the debris from the gutter? Can't recall who posted that on here, maybe I am going mad :D

Well i like to pull up to the white line so its not in all the debris on the edge of the road but not so im still sticking out in their way (y)

I wouldnt go as far as to take myself off the road to help them.

if my personal sight line means i have to move to the right of my side of the road this leaves less room for bikers,

the idea of moving left allows bikers to pass with more ease, and i've often had indicator flashed or a thank you from bikers.

biking is a lifestyle choice people choose to do, might not be the right one, but who says its wrong, im certainly going to help them be safe.

Oh, I do the same thing - but it was a biker on here who said not to do it, can't recall though, possibly ffoxy?

I have been driving for 21 years, so well aware that I don't mean actually driving in the gutter / off-road...

I think it might be a personal preferance, a few bikers ive meet at bikers cafe's have said they are grateful when drivers help them out, especially using indicators to assist them.
not all bikers know this, but they will soon learn

I have a "think bike" sticker on my car.

As a biker i prefer it when cars indicate to let you past
and i sure as hell would prefer to be in front of a car then behind... try taking stones flicked from tyre in the chest at 60+mph. theres also times when cars go over something (like a brick in the road) which goes right under a car but is in your path on a bike.

but you also get some knobby bikers who dislike it.... had biker with a passenger up my arse for over a mile so on a straight bit of empty road I indicated, pulled in slightly (not in the gutter) and let off the throttle. he then ripped past and called me a w*****r!

Thanks for the Tip - Off Stu :)

Yes it was I who Posted about bikes overtaking cars, personally the SV1000 never had a problem passing almost any car whenever I felt it was safe to do so, no actions needed by Mr or Mrs Car driver.com...

Look, compute, twist & go job done in under 3 seconds....

Leave the wheels out of the gutter guys n gals, grown up bikes can pass at will... (y)

what about when there is 3 lines of traffic all doing 30 max on a motor way? i always move a bit to let bikes squeeze through, police will nick the bikers who do it though, i think that is stupid, it should be added to highway code that bikes can do it and car drivers should let them, pointless having a bike if you are stuck in same traffic as cars, bikes should be allowed to do so more people use bikes and that gets more cars off the road

Hi dave. It is legal to filter on a Bike as long as it is safe to do so, unsafe filtering, as with a car, will attract the attentions of the Law, & rightly so.

I've filtered past slow moving & static Police Traffic cars many times & never been pulled.

Generally, speed is the key, filtering through a 3 lane Motorway queue should be done with caution on a Bike at all times, only 1 winner when a car changes lanes in front of a bike, or if a car driver opens a door in static traffic.

Proper traffic observation is required at all times in filtering circumstances wherever they are carried out.

i have a think bike sticker.

as a biker i prefer it when cars move over slightley... (NOT THE GUTTER) stones hurt haha.

reason i like it if they move over slightly it shows to me they DEFINATLY know im there and are watching. it gives abit more saftey when overtaking if they know your there they wont pull out as you are and kill you!

shiney side up people take it easy!

oh and also in police training and filtering is fine. unless the gap is deemed too small for the speed or if the rider is wobbley and showing signs of not beeing in full control :)
