HI all
Does any one know how to reset the service schedule miles, after you have done your own service,or does the dealer have to do it. thanks

Thanks for your reply, but i like to do a oil change every six months on the diesel engine, not that i will be resetting it then, but it would be nice to know how to do it when the time comes thanks,

This is (allegedly) for the multipla, from a yahoo forum, not saying its the same but it may give clues

Mode/Minus (service)/Mode (front tyre pressure)/Minus (service after)/ Press and hold + and - keys: hold for 15 secs.

Correct me if I am wrong, but does the GP Diesel have a oil quality sensor, that determins the correct service time, depending on how good the oil is. Hence if you are changing it you service schedual will be longer.

I used to be really impressed with "oil monitoring" but now I think there is no actual sensor in the oil sampling the quality. Rather other parameters stored in the computer. Short trips, cold starts ( something like that)

Would really like like to be wrong though :)

Had audi a2 tdi before this gp multijet, and that had oil sensor on,if you did about 100 mile short trips the service indicater would drop 300 miles, but at 320£ a service every 12 months i used to reset the counter so it would not flash in my face, not that i am goining to do this on this car, just would be nice to know if you can reset it youself, when the time comes: thanks again.

Hi Stan, I have a Multijet in a Punto Van and change the oil every 6 months too.
Running it on Mobil 1 too, rather than magnatec seemingly used by the Dealer.
I have been trying to find out the purpose of that shield over the oil filter but no one is sure.
Surely it can`t be to hide how easy the oil filter is, thus ensuring more garage servicing?
Only joking :) but surely it has a purpose? as it must bump up the price of the car by a few pence to have it fitted.
Regards

Maybe its to stop it getting hit by debris where abouts is it located on that engine?.

Hi Chris,The oil filter and shield is behind the fan and radiator, protected from the front and difficult to see ( IMHO) how it could be hit by debris from underneath directly.
Its also well up in the engine bay with all the hoses and other components being far more vulnerable, below it.
( but there is no undertray and maybe it is for debris)
I seem to remember though about ( allegedly) some small VW engines sludging their oil with a seemingly similar filter arrangement and wrecking engines below a certain temperature and the fix being a shield seemingly similar to the Multijets.
Interested as to whether Vauxhall and Suzuki fit the shield on their cars fitted with their engine of the same type as the Multijet. ( dont know what they name them)
Thanks for your interest, I`m quite interested in what its for and whether It can be left off.:)
Regards

Thanks for all the info lads, the oil filter cover is right at the front but looks a bit of a pain to remove. But surely some one out there knows how to reset the service schedule mileage, with out taking it to a dealer? cheers lads.:bang:

The first I heard of oil sludge was on 80s Gerrman police cars that would sit at idle at the side of the motorways waiting for Fritz and Helga in their Beemer 323s coming by. The oil heated up but not enough to circulate with any force. When the hot oil hit the cold alloy on the cam cover it would solidify and then block the oil ways.

I saw this on a mates XR3 some years back when I couldnt even pour oil into the engine for the 2 inch deep grease under the oil filler.

Maybe a shield over the filter helps to unify the oil temperature and avoid cold spots

Stan, Theres another Forum that I also enjoy along with this one

http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/index.htm

"Technical Q & A. Help and advice on all aspects of maintaining, repairing & servicing your vehicle."

I have found all these sites compliment each other along with this Fiat Forum.
Hope you find the information you require.
Regards:)

Ooops didn't make that very clear did I

I meant 'afraid not' as in you cant do it yourself...dealer has to reset with examiner.

Apologies,hope that cleared it up:)

so have to wait a few more months 'till its's in the backstreet garage network then (y)

I've a few pals in southen Europe if you know what i mean and apparently the software is out there already:rolleyes:

Thanks oilrag i will be having a look round that site, and cheers for all the other comments lads.

Hi T, This shocked me a little this as I have always serviced our Fiats after the warranty period. If its *locked* to the Fiat examiner for re-setting the service interval indicator its going to be quite a pain when running two Fiats long term and doing DIY.
Currently we have a 2 Fiats that
don`t have a service indicator to reset.
But my wife is right at the point of buying either a 1.3 Panda or ( more likely) a Multijet Grand Punto new from our local Fiat dealer. She has already test driven one but has still to decide.
We have discussed it and will cancel the planned purchase if we have to pay to have a service indicator cancelled. As we have saved a small fortune over the years doing our own servicing. To be honest its the principle and time involved as well as the money ( what is it about £40 each time?)
Is there not an over ride option on the console its self?
Or we could switch to one of those `used car supermarkets` and pick up one of the last of the old models. When did Fiat switch to Dealer only service indicator resets?
Regards:)
