Re: bad for the car?????

When would you ever need to do a handbrake turn on a public road anyway?

Come on James, silly question!!

Besides, does the 1.2 go fast enough to do one, induction kit or not.......

other than that use your common sense . I can remember in my youth (17) in my first car (1.2 8v Punto mk2) I remember doing a handbrake turn at 50mph (ON PRIVATE LAND!) and stopping about 2"'s from a massive boulder next to a river. The car spun about 4-5 times it was terrifing . The only thing wrong with the car was about 4-5mm of tread gone off the tyres.

Re: bad for the car?????

un usall stress on locked back wheels cant be good for it. it will distort the tyre tread like in a side impact crash as well

Wink Re: bad for the car?????

Handbrake turns can be quite a nifty trick in Nottingham when the bullets start flying.... Other than that, can't think of any other reason to use them. Can be fun in the Homebase car park when it snows (so i'm told).

Re: bad for the car?????

yes they can damage the car easily, ask my friend who has a 306, did 1 handbrake turn which shattered the rear axle and buckeled the back left wheel (aftermarket alloys) also twisted chassis costed him a hell of a lot to fix just from one handbrake turn which was only at about 20mph on gravel

Re: bad for the car?????

One of my mates did this with a car once, It flipped and went down the road on its roof.
He kept his foot on the throttle ( while he s**t himself) frozen with fear. ( well it was doing 30mph)
It solved his lack of power due to over revving with a clap cold engine as the engine blew ( no rev limiters in those days) It hit a kerb as it eventually stopped rolling.
and then it was hoisted onto a truck and taken off as scrap.
All that was left was a streak of oil on the road ejected through a hole in the block caused by the over rev and the sump being inverted.
Fun days the 60`s,
We once had one of those old ( as seen in 1920s movies) hand propelled ( pedelled) invalid carriages, with 4 of us onboard we overtook cars going downhill on a *steep* hill in the Yorkshire wolds. Got it up to around 40mph. Didnt go down well at school the next day as one of the cars was the maths teachers.
( done on purpose of course)

Re: bad for the car?????

This crazy stunt can do a lot of damage to your car

Pull tyre of rims
Buckle wheels
Twist suspension
Put back azle out of line
Damage tyres
and thats just for starters, if the sodding thing was meant to turn in its own length then they would have put tracks on them
And thats why the PIGGIES only use older cars on the skid pans, and they normaly have pretty bald tyres.

If you want to try thsi stuff out then why not try Stock Car Racing......cos it makes life safer for the rest of us.

Re: bad for the car?????

I used to hanbrake turn my Mini Cooper on gravel or wet roads all the time, never hurt it. however a GP is a bit bigger and heavier, in fact almost 2x as heavy so dont overdo it and I certainly would not do it to a GP with it's very grippy low profile tyres on dry tarmac! When you get one right it is just great fun
