help- scratches on my GP Sporting!!!

Just washed my GP and have just noticed that the bonnet is covered in long thin white scratches. There are loads of them!! The scratches are very fine and appear to be very shallow. I can only assume a bit of grit got caught on the sponge.

Will a body shop be able to polish these out? Thanks

Re: help- scratches on my GP Sporting!!!

Sorry to here about that. Buy a wash mitt, lambs wool are best, but microfibre are also good. Sponges hold grit. Wash mits take the grit deep into the fibres when washing and release when rinsed in bucket so protect paint. You can chuck them in washing machine when done protecting car further (no fabric conditioner).

Your GP has clear coat paint. A colour followed by clear top coat, if the scratch ist only in the top coat should polsh straight out, try meguires cleaner polish (step 1 in the 3 step system) its not too harsh and developed for clear coat paints which some products are not and colud damage your paint further.

Try AutoGlym's Paint Renovator compound or similar stuff, I use it a lot on scrathes and gives good results. Then use coloured wax (the colour of your car) and follow with normal good quality wax. Scratches are always annoying. Could they have been done by some cat?.

Its going in to the body shop first thing in the morning-they want it for two hours for some hardcore polishing! Will let you know the results!

Think it was def the sponge-would have to be a pysco cat to do that!

Re: help- scratches on my GP Sporting!!!

Just to update you- car is fine now! The bodyshop did a great job at polishing it and the marks are virtually invisible. Goes to show-you have to be damn careful when you wash the car!

you should hose the car with cold water first that would help.

Re: help- scratches on my GP Sporting!!!

Hose first then wash using *plenty* of water.
I use one of those long handled brushes from Halfords and dip it in a big bucket of shampoo ( rather than connecting it to a hose) I don`t like sponges, I think grit gets trapped in them.
In effect the brush floats any grit of the surface rather than grinding it in like a sponge or mit can.

The G. Punto paintwork scratches and swirls very easily.
Watch this video link - you'll be suprised by what you didn't know.
I wash the cars this way now and haven't had one scratch - BRILLIANT!

Re: help- scratches on my GP Sporting!!!

Whats the best to get swirl marks out of an exotic red sporting? Meguiar's stage 1 or a good polish?

Mine were already present when I picked it up so was done by the dealer... I will never let them clean my car again
