Replacement Steering Rack - Courtesy Car Charge!

Is this right?

Have just booked my car in to have a replacement steering rack fitted, at another fiat dealership.

They say that they have to charge £15 for insuring me on one of their cars? Is this right? I never had to pay this at the garage where i purchased the car from.

My dealer's just rang today re the steering rack - and the GP's now booked in for rack replacement on Weds -when I'll also get them to adjust the front wash jets which currently hit the wipers , and ask them too about the missing knee plate as highlighted by Which magazine last month.

Dealer charges 10p a mile for petrol on the courtesy car because so many people were not topping up what they used and returning cars with little/no fuel in the tank. Seems reasonable to me.

Reg Vardy make you put the courtesy car on your own insurance (who may charge you for amending your policy).

Benfield Motors in Newcastle don't charge and they just fotocopy your driving license and put you on their insurance

Can you let me know what they say about the washers? I raised this ages ago and it's still "with Fiat"

Re: Replacement Steering Rack - Courtesy Car Charge!

I had 3 courtesy cars from alan gibson while waiting for my GP to be delivered (was delayed etc)

In total i had a courtesy car from them for 6-7 weeks never got charged a penny, never returned any with fuel in as i got them with no fuel in...

The one time after my GP went into have its bonnet realigned etc i had a courtesy car free of charge and i was told return it with the same amount of fuel it has now in, which i did...

Never had to do anything for insurance, except fill in a form for them...

Will do - i had a look myself and decided it wasn't a simple pin in the hole job - and wasn't going to risk breaking em by messing with them.

I noticed it and they say it's the way its supposed to be I explained that if my screen gets covered in mud on a motorway i want the screen wash on the screen and not at the base of the bonnet...for me its a safety issue which needs looking at.

Screenjets are not adjustable. The only way the dealer "tries" to adjust them a little bit is to tilt the plastic plate there on.

Re: Replacement Steering Rack - Courtesy Car Charge!

I popped into a fiat dealer today in Bury Greater Manchester and noticed it was £10.00 per day for a courtesy car to cover the cost of insurance..

when my car goes in for the steering rack there is no way I am paying due to an issue that is not my doing..

I would hardly call a £10 charge per day courteous would you ???

i hear what you're saying but the dealer has to pay insurance not fiat...

the amount of times we get cars back with scrapes and scratches etc is ridiculous. nobody treats their car the way some customers treat a courtesy car... i'm not implying anybody on here is like this but some people are disgusting to the point that we've a number of people who we just wont allow a car.

the courteous part is not charging a hire fee, but the cars need to be insured and the £15 that we charge is better than having an accident and having a £200 excess (less than most peoples own insurance) charge is it not?

having said that i would speak to customer care about covering that cost if it were me.. as you point out its not your fault the cars have problems...

Re: Replacement Steering Rack - Courtesy Car Charge!

Sorry but if the car is being repaired because it is defective or has been recalled then you should not pay for a penny for courtesy car! if it is for regular service then there is an argument.

If the car had been correct in the first place then you wouldn't be there. If they try to charge you for a courtesy car then say you will invoice them for your time to return the defective vehicle, and when they say that you should invoice Fiat directly then your argument is won

I have never and will never pay for a courtesy car when a car is going to a dealer for a fault under warenty. Having owned a Peugeot I know about faulty vehicles I can tell you!

LOL

We sometimes charge for courtesy cars but this is because insurance (customers) asks for it because courtesy car is of bigger C.C. than customers.
Other times insurance companies ask for small fee but majority of time theres no problem/fee.Must admit though we do get some cars back in a state...dirty nappy on back seat, dog that chewed all rear seatbelts, scratches, spare wheels missing...even radio stolen!
