GP Servicing

Hi. Very much looking to picking our GP up tomorrow - 1.4 16v Eleganza. What can you tell me about servicing. I know there's one due at 12 months / 18k miles, but what about an oil change a few weeks after purchase? Thanks.

Re: GP Servicing

I know over here in NZ we have to take it back after 6 months to double check everything and i think they drop the oil. other than that it's just drive as normal.

Re: GP Servicing

Ah! can some one clear this up for the uk?
My owners manual says 2yrs otr 18k for the 1st service but my dealer has put a reminder sticker saying 12 months or 12k.
Id rather not lash out for a service if it doesnt need one.
Obviously I will change the oil and filter myself at 12months which is cheaper than taking it in to the dealers.
So is it 2yrs or 12 months for the 1st service? cheers

Re: GP Servicing

Servicing must be carried out by dealer or VAT registered garage using genuine parts.Yearly.

Re: GP Servicing

Well why does the service book say 2 years or 18k? and the computer to the right of the dash says service in 15k miles (The car has done 3000 miles when I go thru the menu.
Isnt this just the dealers blagging money for an unscheduled service? Surely if the service book says 2 years then there shouldnt be any problems with warranty claims?
Is this a dealer decision as it doesnt appear to have come from Fiat if their service books say otherwise.
I'm not doubting you but I feel like ive been a victim of false advertising the grande is supposed to have extended servicing. Now I find its not the case.

Re: GP Servicing

Your handbook states clearly the service intervals, this depends on type of usage the vehicle is subjected too,it also depends on type of engine you have, also if vehicle is fitted with a DPF it is this that governs when the oil (not when serviced) is renewed.

... and if so, what engine oil would be recommended for the 1.4 16v engine - and at what mileage? thanks again

Re: GP Servicing

Coincidence - that's exactly what I've been thinking.

I think some of these service schedules are WAY to long apart and that IDEALLY if you wanted to keep the engine running as long as possible then more frequent oil changes can only be a beneficial thing.
I'm still waiting on an answer from someone else on the forum as to what type of oil to use.
I'd like to have the oil changed where a new engine is concerned to flush out some of the initial microscopic new metal bits - maybe after 4-5000 miles.
Then use Mobile 1 0-40w
I spend alot of time in Los Angeles, USA and it is fascinating to see that the recommended service/oil change intervals are much more frequent for most of the European/Japanese brands that they sell out there.

Re: GP Servicing

I'd also find it REALLY useful to know if "Engine Oil Flush" has been used/is recommended by anyone and if so what kind to buy and how long to leave it in.

Re: GP Servicing

I used flush you add it to the oil in the car before you change it and do a short run (fast idle for 15 mins dont go over 3000 rpm).
