Hi all,

Now that my GP's woes are fixed and it is happily running again, I am finally thinking about improving the looks on it. Firstly, I am wanting to colour match a few parts (mirror caps, and door handles) as with mine being the active, it has those awful black plastic handles .

I have bought a can of 598/a (my paint code) spray paint of eBay and will get experimenting this weekend starting with the mirrors.

The advice I need is regarding the side bumper strips.

In order to smooth out the appearance of the car, I want to remove them, but I am almost certain the paint beneath will be a different colour - as when I replaced the rear badge, there was a noticeable change to the rest of the boot where the badge sat. If this is the case when I remove the strips, I am thinking about painting them to match the car. Will these paint 'well'? I don't think they are rubber, could be wrong, so I am hoping they will paint like any other bit of plastic would.

Also, here's a picture of the car in it's current form... any mod ideas are appreciated!

Hi all,

quick update on this post - few pics of the mirrors painted:

Not bad for eBay paint!

It doesn't look to match all that well on camera, in person though it looks great!

Door handles next :p

Cheers guys.

They look amazing mate, done a cracking job on them ??. Could you post a link to the eBayer you bought the paint from.

How did you get on with the side strips, I need to do mine too and side skirts.

Did you need to rub them down and prime before painting with colour, and did you use lacquer over the top?

Also, how do find out the colour code for the car?

Cheers
Dan

Hi mate, sorry for the delay in response, I havent been on here for a few days!

The eBay shop I got the paint from is here.

The paint code was under the bonnet if I remember correctly on a metal badge (no pics sorry!) and yeah I sanded them down, primed them in grey filler primer and then painted in 3 or so coats and finally clear coated them, although the clear coat was rubbish and not very glossy at all.

Hope this helps, I haven't got around to doing the side strips yet! I'll update here when I eventually do.

Cheers

Awesome, I'll check under there then. Thanks for the link, I'll get some paint ordered up, soon as I know the colour.
Good luck with the strips. Fingers crossed I'll get round to doing mine some time soon, when time permits ha ha.
