Should I change my gearbox oil

Hey guys have a GP TJET 2009 1.4

Today I check my gear box oil for the first time ever on my car. I just want to know if people think I should change it due to it age as it has never been changed b4. Attached a pic of the oils state Click image for larger version

Just some background info to car.
It is 8 years old but only has 12k miles. ( I know I got a company car also). The oil had never been changed or inspected until today.

So any suggestions.
Thanks

Change it, for the cost of it and the time it takes just do it. New oil is never a bad thing. Can't remember what colour new oil is, got some tutela in the garage, I'll have a look tomorrow.

Is your gearbox the same as the one in this guide?

Re: Should I change my gearbox oil

Change it after a drive so it is warm and thinner and you'll get most of it out. If you want it all out you'll need to jack drivers side a little, drain it on passenger side of box and a few mm above the bottom. Use a funnel to refill and use specified amount, fill until it is level with the bottom of filler hole.

Give me a while to wake up, I'll check colour.

Cheers

Ben

Re: Should I change my gearbox oil

Not supposed to be red. Red is usually autobox fluid. Normal gear oil is yellow, like in your sample.

There will always be some residue left inside, clinging to the gears, sitting on any ledge etc., but no need to worry about that.

Just fill until it starts to leak from the filler hole. Good advice to do when warm, comes out significantly more easily, but don't get it so hot to burn or scald.

Re: Should I change my gearbox oil

Hey guys. So I changed my transfer fluid over ( Wow does it smell - why did no one warn me lol) I did it with little fuss. So if anyone a noob like me and has any questions let me know.

The two mango bottle to the right were my old fluid it was a type of dark green. Although in a recent picture it looked in pretty good condition. Admittedly abit of wd40 got into my drain pan so may have contaminated colour. But my gear box feels much better just from this change.

Re: Should I change my gearbox oil

Hi Emerson,

nice pictures once again ! The darken color and the bad smell result both of oxydation; as time passes the 'oil' ends up being just a viscous thing with few lubricating properties left, no wonder why you feel your GB works better now with fresh fluid !
Strangely there is no recommendation about oïl change in the user's manual in maintenance section ! I'd replace it every 2nd year after the 1st anniversary ...

BRs, Bernie

Well that was going to be my next question as I heard gearbox oil was 5 years. But I may do it 2 - 3 year. Mark dependant on usage
