Looks like your flexi joint is on it's way out. Suggest you go along to an exhaust place and ask them to do an exhaust check...nothing more. They will probably try and sell you exhaust but just walk away. You can go under the car and have a look and see if it is that and see the condition of the rest of the car.

I will take it to Kwik Fit as they look at exhausts for free and then walk away. Thanks

So I'm going to sound a numpty but that looks like some kind of sleeve around the flexi pipe. It looks like it's been mauled by a lion and looks like it has slipped off slightly. Is this just a protection cover?

As you can see the main part of the flexible joint is a bellows. This will elongate under pressure (the bends try to straighten). The woven stainless outer covering resists this elongation. This is it's primary function but it also provides some protection to the bellows.
Your flexi needs to be replaced.

Guessing that's going to cost a few hundred... I spoke to one garage and they said they would have to replace it all as they won't weld that piece

Bit peeved as it passesld it's MOT in March and they never said anything about it

Signed up to that whocanfixmycar website. Will see what the garages quote me. I will get them to check the rest of exhaust as well

The flexible pipe and sleeve will probably have been OK at MOT or obviously not a fail. Get Kwik Fit to check it out and confirm that it needs done. Try ClickMechanic for a quote as well. They are usually pretty competitive and, if they can, their mobile mechanics will come to you but unsure what coverage there is in Aberdeen.

Get under the car and measure length and diameter at each end of flexi buy one from eBay that will fit and take it to turriff tyres and ask them to weld it in.

Not sure what model it is you have but you can get a full 2 or 3 piece system from eBay for about £70 if you have a 1.2 or 1.4 8v. If you have axle stands and a basic socket set you could change yourself in about 2 hours on the drive. If current exhaust is original you will need to cut it off at the back near rear axle, there is space for a junior hacksaw.

Cheers

Ben

If your middle section is removable then replace it :) my old stilo 1.2 had the mid section with flexi replaced twice... it kept blowing and had to be replaced every 18 months, buy a good one - klarius are pretty close to oem and should last a bit longer than the **** i bought.
