As in the title there is a rattle when idling but when the clutch is depressing this reduces significantly. Is this the clutch mechanics? If so, what is normally the issue here to get a fix?

The lurching when driving at 30mph or below... is this linked? Car needs a service at some point soon as hasn't had a proper service in 3 years other than my partner, myself and the mots of course. Bad... I know. What type of service do you suggest? Full? Or would an interim cover most things? All brakes were done in Jan and handbrake cable was changed (again!) In April.

What car ? Maybe you got the "bad" gearbox fit on your GP. But if the noise disapear when pressing the clutch, the thrust bearing may be involved.

At what RPM (in which gear) does that lurching shows up ? 30mph (50 km/h) is about 1200 rpm in 5tH gear; on some cars there is a zone where the ECU is quite hesitating, if that apply, try to shift down when it happens.

3 years without serious service is not good as you admit, on a petrol car, sparkplugs DO wear and need (at least) adjustment, filters need to be cleaned/replaced etc.

Bring your car to a mechanic to service your car, an experienced Guy will also hear where the noise come from..

Thank you Bernie, I have changed spark plugs over the 3 years, only thing that hasn't been inspected is the filter which could be another issue as there is an engine rattle too.

As of today the car is rattling with or without clutch depression but it is very warm, don't know of this is linked. Car temp is in the middle.

It's not sounding good at all! Clutch appears to be slipping now too :(

The lurching is intermittent so hard to tell from rpm. If it happens again I will add it to this post.

I will take it in payday! Thank you!

It's also very difficult to get into gear.

My opinion - new clutch (all three parts) required

What do you mean by "... but it is very warm" ?
If you're talking about the gearbox, it's not normal, you may have a dying bearing inside, I would drain the oil out and check for metal particules. If you clutch is slippy now, it's time to get it replaced anyway, from there almost all the job is done to inspect the gearbox...
