Just bought a Sony DSX-A400BT headunit and it wont power up?

I've bought an adapter and spliced the larger red cable from the adapter into the ciggy lighter but still no power??

No fuses are blown, just a very confused me.
Pictures below;
1) picture of the sony headunit cables
2) cables from the sony headunit
3) the adapter red cable going into the ciggy lighter
4) the adapter going into the Punto Headunit cables.

thanks!!

Is the power at cigar lighter?
If not try again with ignition on.
Is there power at light now?

yes theres power at the cigar lighter (i can tell by using the lighter itself and a bluetooth dongle i used before lights up and is working)

If you have volt meter , unplug connector from head unit and check battery voltage at connector between ground wire and battery +ve.
Or use a 12v bulb between the two wires.

Sorry, we are trying to check that at the connector that goes into head unit
There is a working +ve wire (from cigar lighter) and a working -ve (also called a ground wire)
Did the instructions with head unit say connect red to cigar lighter +ve?
The cigar lighter +ve is the connection in the centre of the hole .
Are you 100% certain you have correct adapter cable?

Bought it from halfords so not 100% sure as you know what they are like!!

he took my numberplate and said it would fit but on the box is says for Peugot/Citroen? questioned him and he replied with 'its fine it will work'

Ok put thought about halfords to one side.
Coming out of back of head unit any idea why there is a red wire connected to yellow wire and yellow to red?

Wires from back of head unit the two single wire connectors, connect red to red and yellow to yellow.

i'll find the adapater i have and will link it as i think thats whats causing the problems!

Just changed the red to red and yellow to yellow.

You have done all you can.
Go back to halfords you bought it from with the car and ask them what's wrong, politely.
Hopefully they have a fitting guy who will know straight away.
It could be the head unit faulty or a faulty lead .
Huge well done trying to fit and fix it yourself , you have just been unlucky.

Your car already has a standard iso lol.

Remove the autoleads harness, and connect the sony one to your cars standard iso, also if it doesnt power on, join red and yellow together on sony harness as the fiats are permanent live on stereo iso harness... not switched so memory feed and switched live go to permanent feed, usually u can swap the bullet connectors and bridge them :)
