Changed spark plugs, oil and air filter on my 1.2 GP today.
Also change coolant and bottom hose (but can't see that's anything to do with the problem).
Took it for a test drive. It ran well but when I got up to about 75 on the motorway the yellow engine warning light started to flash. It stopped when I came off the motorway.
I thought it could be a loose plug lead but it did not feel like it was missing (and I doubt if it would do 75 on 3 cylinders).
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks
Chris

Next time it starts flashing, boot it! My daughter's does something similar on a very light throttle opening at high speed. It's probably a very slight misfire when the mixture is weak. Make sure both Lambda sensors are screwed in tight (her lower one has a habit of working loose!) and that there are no other exhausted leaks. Check plug gaps again. You might have slightly damaged a plug lead pulling it off the old plug. Make sure the crankcase breather hose on top of the engine hasn't split when you took the air filter housing off.

Thanks for the suggestion - I will take a look tomorrow.
And, yes, I have been looking for an excuse to get a fault reader. Would this one work or is there something I should look out for:

Chris

yes It'll WORK,(y)
but it's a basic code reader;) only reads ENGINE codes.

OBD ( 2) is a car manufacturers standard, so they should ALL work

so info on this ad.;

Great, thanks for the comprehensive info.
Looks like a much better system than the hand-held devices.
thanks again.

I actually got a cheaper one for £7

I got this a couple weeks ago to read my engine code and it worked fine!

Put in the software disc it comes with and there are applications you can use on there so you dont have to download the software.
Just plug in and open the application and you can read the code and reset the code. Easy and Cheap!

did you find the problem?

Hi,
obviously I don't know about the exact interface you bought, but many, if not most, of the sub £10 ELM327 leads and bluetooth interfaces have a design issue. They have a 120 ohm terminating resistor connected acoss the CAN bus pins (pins 6 and 14). While tha does not normally affect basic operationand connecting to the engine ECU it does make them uneliable and unable to connect to other CAN modules like the body ECU or ABS. Removing the resistor solves the problem.

Hi,
The KL interface will only provide basic codes, which covers most things on early cars. Later cars with CAN bus need a ELM327 or similar interface for full functionality. The leads are used to connect to additional modules such as ABS or airbags on some models. there is a compatibility list here:
http://www.multiecuscan.net/SupportedVehiclesList.aspx
The GP needs lead 3 (yellow) for ABS, Airbag, CAN info, proxi alignmnt and service reset on most versions.

HTH,

Hi,

pitty than Chris haven't told us how it went ... Now the original post is slowly slipping to a OBD/CAN/K line, soon we'll see again various PCBs and tricks to fix the termination issue, inverting switch to connect to 2nd CAN bus on Fiats, etc.
Fine to give infos, but at the end it becomes messy ...
