hello everyone i recently changed battery on grande punto 1.2 2006 reg
and now the remote door lock wont work and when i try starting i get the engine with padlock on dash. any ideas how to remove so i can start it
cheers

I am dealing with this issue on another punto at the moment. on the battery positive there is a 70amp midi fuse (1.2 8V) Check the resistance of this. Then bridge the fuse with a spanner and turn the key to the 1st position only. does the light go out? If so, replace this fuse.

is that on a grande punto or punto

For sure ! But NEVER do that: the battery can explode !!

A friend of mine lost an eye doing that stupid thing...

I didn't say put a spanner accross the battery terminals!!!

I said, put a spanner accross the 2 posts that the 70am fuse connects accross, bypassing the fuse. It's only for a test and it will not spark.

i gathered you meant accross the fuse just wondered if it would arc wouldnt be daft enough to put it over the terminals

Hi Thorpy & All,

I just wanted to warn about "putting spanner across" !

You replied once "engine battery" and in the very next post "will it arc when putting spanner across" ... That might be confusing for less experienced readers

Ransonman was clear about shunting the FUSE with a spanner, but hey, some Guys might just jump to the last post to get the solution...

And BTW, the best way to check the fuse is to mesure the voltage drop across it when drawing current in this particular circuit; it should be very close to zero (a few mV)

Regards, Bernie
