Hey guys. I have a GP 1.3 MJT and here is my problem. First of all My Engine Light Turns on randomly when i am driving only on the highway, the fault code says is a engine temperature sensor (which i changed twice already), after 1 or 2 days it goes off by itself. I took my car to a mechanic, he checked the wires and everything seems OK, the only thing left he said is to change the ECU. According to 2 other mechanics my car has been flooded. Also i took my car to a FIAT Dealership and they couldn't connect it to the FIAT official software only with other universal software. I just wanna be sure that the ECU might be the problem because changing the ECU is really expensive. Thank you in advance

Mornin', how about your car REALLY having an engine cooling issue (since it happens only on highway) ? Never happened to me so I don't know how it goes when overheating is detected; what is your dashboard showing when this happens ? Just the MIL on or also high temp on the meter ?

Regards, Bernie

Besides the check engine light turning on, the temperature gauge shows normal temperature, and also when the light turns on it drops to 0. i Check the engine temperature by hand and its not that hot, it seems normal to me, and also the radiator fan turns on as a precaution measure to cool the engine temperature down.

Sounds to me like a communication issue between the sensor and the ECU. Have You or the mechanic checked for humidity/moisture/corrosion on the (huge) ECU connectors ?

Yes I think so becuase they were really clean when i opened up the hood and checked for what he had done. So i am guessing he cleaned them. And before him another mechanic sprayed the connectors with something for the corrosion.

So, i changed the ECU and until now the prblem i had doesnt show, but i think now the car does not accelerate as much as before. Does the ECU have to do anything about this or it might be something else.

First of all we need to know if the ECU comes from the exact same version of the car ! Regarding the performances, there are a load of reasons why this could happen. Almost everything is monitored by the ECU and all the signals (but a few) have the ECU modifies positions of actuators , E-V , relays... So if one sensor on your car has different range (i.e the MAP) than the donnor car it would probably affect the overall performance (better or worse BTW !), without necessarily throwing an error code.
There is also something called the "learning mode" where the ECU adapts its behavior to how the car reacts to its instructions. I believe this can be reset via MES.
Final thinking is about the injectors: each of them is working slightly differently so they have a personal code that must be entered in the ECU, also via MES.

This MultiEcuScan is a MUST tool for every Fiat/Alfa/Lancia enthusiast owner !

Best regards, Bernie

The power loss came directly as soon as i Tried the new ECU. I see the labels of both ecus and they are all the same information. So can it still be the problem of the ECU?
