So I get clunking from both top front strut mounts when turning the wheel.

How much has anyone paid to replace these? Parts are about £30 per side.. What is the labour?

Has anyone found a way to stop them clunking temp? My garage told me to keep spraying WD40 into them.. and that he had put white grease on them to stop it a bit.. (How did he do this without removing the suspension?)
Is there an easier way from underneath?

I've been using the car like this for around 2 years now and its getting louder. Garage told me it wasn't an MOT fail last time and it is not detremental to the cars health.. I don't want them too loud this time when it goes in next month!
Just sprayed WD40 on them tonight and I will keep on doing so every so often for the next four weeks till the MOT.

At a decent garage, no longer than an hour. The tops are only held on to the chassis with one nut, and the bottom 2 bolts on the axle. All they have to then do is pop it in a spring compressor, remove the old top and place a new one straight on. That's half an hour per side.

I'd say no longer than 3 hours for the amateur DIY mechanic with the right tools.

Thanks for that !

In other news. Iv been spraying WD40 on the top mounts every so often for a week. The clunking has lessened.

So advice for anyone who has this problem and doesnt want to fork out to get them changed.

Buy yourself a big tin of WD40 and spray onto the top of the top struts. Somehow it does work its way in there !

Stop being such a stingebag and get your car fixed properly, the sooner you do it the more value you will get out of it. The MOT is a minimum requirement, for a modern newish car you should really have higher standards.

If you are going to lubricate grumbling mount bearings, it might be better to jack the car up so the wheels don't touch the ground, this should relax the bearing and let the lubricant penetrate a bit more easily.
