anyone know if you can adjust the clutch or pedal (8v 1.4) engagement (at very top at the moment).
Needing new clutch but being a hydraulic unit is has anyone managed to adjust it.

Not really. I had the opposite problem on the daughter's 8 valve 1.2. Clutch was biting right at the BOTTOM. In fact, it went through a phase of stalling when you tried to engage 1st or reverse gears and the car would try and move with the clutch fully depressed. All you can do is try bleeding it, but if your problem is at the TOP of its travel, it's almost as if you want to introduce more air into the system rather than less! I ended up grinding the back of the clutch pedal to give it a tiny bit more travel before it hit the toe-board. I wouldn't recommend it other than as a last resort because apart from the unpleasantness of grinding in the footwell, you run the risk of the master cylinder bottoming-out before the pedal hits the toe-board (which wouldn't do the master cylinder any good)!
