Picking up a 59 plate T-Jet on Saturday with 56K on the clock. No evidence of having had a timing belt so that will be done immediately along with water pump and thermostat. How is the belt as a DIY, any special tools required? I've done belts on a Hilux and chains on minis in my time.

Cheers

Ben

You need the classic timing kit with the locking tools etc
It's easier than a vvt engine (8v / starjet etc) but you still need the kit.

Don't do it without it.

hi, its very easy DIY job, no locking kit is needed. Just mark old belt, transfer marks on new one and you will be ok. Same as other FIRE engines.

Aaaand that's the wrong way to replace the timing belt.

Please don't suggest methods that could damage someone else's car just because you or someone you know did it and worked out by luck. Not to mention that the timing is probably wrong (it's not the first time someone did it that way and they had to fix it later)

whatever, my car seems to be happy and i did it by this way twice already (230000km+)

Will be done by a local guy recommended by someone I trust, he's not got the tools but is hiring them in for the job.

Thanks all for the info and suggestions.

majority of timing belt changes are done without proper tools

Just got a 2013 1.4 T-Jet 8valve, 4 cylinder 57Kw. Timing belt size 129 teeth/22mm width. BHP 77. Just saying, so one does`nt mix up the sizes with old `06 models. Stay safe buddies.
