Hello everyone :)
Recently my GP 1.4 8v 2006 developed whinning noise when I press on gas pedal. I can hear the whinning in 1st 2nd and 3rd gear no noise in neutral the whinning starts on 2000rpm and goes away after 3000rpm or when I let my foot off the gas. It makes me think it is the gearbox but why it only makes the noise in certain rpm, the oil in the gearbox was replaced 3 months ago and all the gears shift smoothly and surly the gerbox should last longer then 65000 miles. Also i have engine oil leak somewhere I have to add 500ml of oil every 4 months when I took off the Air box I have notice some oil in the throttle body (the seal between the box and throttle body was damaged) which I have replaced. I have checked Air inteake and can't see any leak.
My question is did anyone have similar problem or know where the noise may be coming from ?
It really makes me thing that it's the gearbox but other then that it's fine or it might be something to do with the oil in throttle body ?
(I will try to record the sound leater on)

I have managed to record hope you can hear it whistle
I've attached YouTube link as I can't uplode the video.

Please do the following:
Get in your car alone.
Start the engine.
Remain stationary.
Roll down your window
Turn on the recorder on your phone.
Hold it outside the car, through the open window, towards the engine.
Give it a few good revs.
End recording.

After that maybe we can figure out what's happening

Ok will record it in a min althrough I can't hear the noise when reving the engine when stationary only when moving.
But I was listening to it with the Windows closed.

Hope it helps
I've listened to the video and think you right that it may be something with the engine as it's whistling. Propobly something to do with the disapering oil and the oil in throttle body ? But I have checked every where around the engine and even left white carbords for couple of days and there wasn't any msrks on it. The only thing is the oil in throttle body as far as I know there should not be any oil in there ? (correct me if im wrong)

So I went to mechanic and I've been told that the noise is coming form gearbox, the mechanic I go to work with gearbox specialist. The gearbox guy said it's a bearing and after he ride the car he said it's common with fiat and that there is no point in spending money on it as nothing will happen apart from it being noisy. Any one have this problem with their gearbox and decided to live with it ? As I don't really know if I should get it repair as soon as possible or just live with the noise.

Do the same test again but this time with the clutch pressed in and any gear selected (not just in neutral)

If the noise is still there then it's not the gearbox.

If the noise goes away then it's the gearbox.

If the gearbox is whining then it needs fixing, if you leave it, eventually something like a bearing will fail and cause serious damage to the other internal components.

Definitely sounds like gearbox bearings, do loads of them and do all the re-build work myself so not too expensive either

How it's the gearbox bearings if the shaft isn't even moving? (clutch disengaged - in gear)

I've got my friend to revv the engine for me and it seems like it coming from alternator or somewhere from there. I had ac pump replaced and the drive belt also had the timing belt, tensioner and water pump done in the last 5 months so think it maybe the alternator bearing. Hopefully I will get it daignosed on thursday or friday, I hope it's not the gearbox lol.
