I've checked the other threads and there was no answer for this problem.

Water is leaking into the boot of my 08 grande punto and soaking the carpet. I've done some troubleshooting and with the tailgate open, if I pour some water into the water collecting trough at the top of the opening, it takes a bit of time but water ends up leaking into the boot via a small opening in a metal panel, down the white rear quarter panel and into the boot itself. I cannot however find the source.

I have photos but I am unable to post them (edit: imgur.com/a/JjA8E )

Does anyone know where the source of the leak may be? I'm guessing there is a pinhole in a weld or something.

If you mean the tailgate seal, I've checked it and it's fine.

Tailgate seal is missing in your pictures.

I took the tailgate seal off to find where the water was coming out, which is why you can't see it in the photos.

You can see in the first photo, I have put a red circle where the water is leaking from.

I don't think the seal is the problem though as it's leaking into the boot from the water runoff from the roof. Water runs off the roof and falls into the gulley around the tailgate and runs off the back of the car. It's leaking in somewhere from the gulley IMO. The leak exit is too high up for it to be the rear light cluster seal from what I can tell.

Ah ok.

Put some silicone there and you are done.

I could do that, but then the water could end up collecting somewhere else that I cannot see or leak somwhere else, instead of following the proper channels. The water shouldn't be there in the first place.

I need to find the source for the leak and fix it there.

Has anyone else had a similar leak and found the source?

Wait a sec.

Water runs off the roof and falls into the gulley around the tailgate and runs off the back of the car.

That's normal.

Water runs off the roof and falls into the gulley around the tailgate and runs off the back of the car, BUT ... a small percentage of water is leaking in somewhere from the gulley to where I have highlighted on the first photo.

I'm thinking there is a crack or pinhole in the weld or something in the gulley itself.

Some GP (and bravo) had this welding problem actually around the tailgate area.

The solution (from fiat) was a black ugly silicone on top of every welding marks.
Look closer and you will find the source.

I had a leak on the rear roof area and the water was coming from the antenna base... funny thing is that there was no water marks under the antenna or anywhere near the antenna lol.

When i had this problem with my bravo, i couldn't find the place the water was getting in. so i assumed it was getting in through capillary action between the seal and the metal lip the seal should be snugly fitted to. I took off the seal and packed it with silicone grease in the slot(doesn't harm rubber) then pressed it back on to the metal lip.

3 years later still had not had another leak.

Thought I'd post an update. I cured the leak by filling in the gap under the boot seal at the top with silicone sealant.

I had this problem too recently, silicone sealant in the boot liner crevice solved it, my leak was coming from top left side and was running through my seat belt insulation and then through the beige panel. I also replaced my aerial grommet.
