Hi I have literally just yesterday bought a fiat punto grande sporting 2007. And have just noticed that when I am steering at slow speed or dry steering it will make a slight grinding noise when initially moving the wheel. But only when going slow when the car is moving at a decent speed it doesn't seem to make the noise. Does it sound like the top strut bearing? If so how much am I looking at to get this fixed at a garage? I've seen the diy thread but I don't have a spring compressor. It had the steering column replaced last year and just last month had a new front Spring last month. Thanks

Top mount bearing failure will sound like a series of 'clangs' or clicks as the spring twists, rather than grinding.

To confirm if there's a bad top mount, CAREFULLY place your hand on the spring while someone turns the wheel to full lock either way. You will feel the spring click if the bearing is bad.

Wrt cost it'll be 1-2 hours labour plus around 20 per bearing so 120-150 ish if having both done.
