Hi everyone

Just changed the cambelt and waterpump on my sons car and the engine mgmt has stayed on, any ideas on how to resett it.

Cheers??????

depends on what fault you have / or created....

if its come on after timing belt change did you use the timing kit and reset the top pulley prior to tension setting then carry out a phonic wheel learn?

did you re position all removed sensors / plugs correctly ?

did you replace the rocker gasket (1.4 uses a hydraulic VVT and the little oil way between the rocker top and the block tends to leak back into the engine if a new gasket isnt fitted ?

Cheers people

I done it exactly how the Haynes manual says, locked the cam and crankshaft off, slipped the old belt off and fitted the new belt and tensioner and set the tension, rotated the crank 2 times, lined up the timing marks, released the locking tools and put it all back together, tbh I started it up and it sounded a bit squeaky so I may have put the crank pulley on wrong or tensioned the fan belt to much.

I am also aware that I need to fit a new rocker cover gasket, but just wanted to see that I done everything ok, so I'll fit a new gasket and check the crank pulley but other than that all sensors went back in the way they came off???

I will also see if I can get a code reader.

Cheers??????

where are you?

i had a light because the timing was out P0016

so if your out by one tooth it could put this up
was the light on before you did the belt?
cheers craig

Light was not on before I did the belt, I locked the cam and crank so timing shouldn't be out, started the car and it seems to be running ok, bit reluctant to drive as the EML is still on, don't want to risk it, if I was out a tooth or by a few it would show in the running and timing ??????

I think I need the code reader, if it comes up as timing belt I'll re do it again and see if it clears then.

Cheers

i've got the 1.4 16v and i didn't think my timing was out change a few sensors before giving in and having it done( with fiat main dealer) original code p0016 drove it home and then had a light on my heart dropped but thankfully new code p0340 cam sensor had gone what the chances :bang: my car was driving lovley with the timing out just light on the dash that's why i was so sure everyone was wrong about the first code but thankfully they where right and after they changed the belt it gone (y) if you got a laptop there is free software you can download
http://www.multiecuscan.net/

they let you try it for free allows you to use it for 20 minutes and then switch it off and back on and start again or you can then buy it for 50 euros

you'll also need elm327 to connect to the car range from £5-£20 on ebay

apple are only good for eating lol :ROFLMAO:

yeah they do bluetooth one as well but they won't be made for fiat just odbii so the code should be the same but the meaning might be different so once you got the code then ask on here what it means

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FIAT-Punt...181777?hash=item339f7e39d1:g:jGwAAOSwqu9VChu3

just do a search for elm327 bluetooth on ebay and loads will come up cheapest ones will be from china and you'll have to wait a bit longer for it so if your in a rush buy for someone in the uk check that it come with an app or if your downloading from phone check that it compatable with the app you have downloaded

but not as good as multiecuscan for this car (not that i have multiecuscan)
don't know if there any mobile mechanics around you that will come a read it for you

best of luck hope this help craig

If you want to access OBD sensors/error codes etc from the iPhone, get the ELM327 WIFI from ebay and download EOBD-facile from the appstore :)

after the belt is changed - you want to get the ECU ( cars brain) to see the different timing signals as "ONE" - if it's a tuiny bit out..it'll see the sensor inputs as more than ONE,
that is where the relearn comes in.., ;)

dave may be near enough to you to be able to recommend somewhere,

Hi Chaps

Received the ELM337 wifi this morning, went out to the car straight away with it, plugged it in and turned ignition on, logged on to wifi and began playing.

I've attached some screen shots from my phone also I had to upgrade the app so I have the enablement to clear codes

It's currently sitting with the code P0340 camshaft position sensor
now on reassembly I remember wiping the cam sensor clean, would this render the sensor useless now?? if not shall I just clear the code??? Seeing as everything appears to be ok, like I said I hope you can see the screen shots to advise.

Cheers??????

Code cleared, all done, running fine, got to adjust fan belt and install new rocker cover gasket but seems ok, needs a wheel bearing but I've done loads of them, so should be straightforward fix.

Thanks for the help chaps??????
