Hello all,

Need some general help with my Fiat.

The Gearbox has been playing for a while until today as the car is not longer starting. The Dualogic Gearbox would sometimes not engage the Reverse and make a terrible noise and then not back into neutral, after playing a little bit with it, the car goes fine.

Today, after parking the car, I turned the engine with the reverse on the gearstick. The buzzer went off again but would not stick back to Neutral or 1st Gear, i decided to turn off the car and turn it back on again and now is making a click-crank noise without doing anything else at all and always on the N gear.

If I only turn the car on and I press the brake (which i understand in these cars this would be the clutch) I can hear the Click-Crank again only once, and without fully turning the key to start the car.

Any ideas? I have tested the battery and is all good, all the electricals in good working order. Should I connect my car to a computer to find out what's wrong?

From where do I need to start?

Thank you very much

hi,
connecting to a computer may help the diagnosis,
but you've still got an issue,

does the pump run when you open the drivers door..??

Hello,

Thank you for the prompt response.

Yes I can still hear the pump going on when opening the drivers door.

Any ideas?

well unless the fluid level of the gearchange mechanism is SO LOW it's disabled operation completely..,
I still think you've got an underlying car-wide power supply issue.

look in the FAQ's of the grande section to see about the main earth lead from battery to gearbox, and chassis failing internally.

the non-cranking, and issues with gear-change operation are all dependant on a good 12 volt circuit. loss of earth connection interrupts that circuit.

So, as a test measure,
get a jumper cable from battery negative to engine metalwork, ideally a croc-clip "jumplead" , however household wiring bolted at either end would suffice for a test.

see if ( without cranking the engine) you can get g-box function back.

I'd suggest removing the battery earth lead overnight to see if anything resets itself also,
as there are LOTS of sensors and devices related to the g-box function that ALL rely on a good and stable 12Volt supply.

where are you / the car based..??

Hi Varese,

Thank you for all of your help.

I've managed to repair the car:

- It was engaged into the Reverse Gear, so it was impossible to start it, we manage to start the car bypassing the motor and it was by then when the worst came to my head, thinking that the gearbox was gone.

- We deactivated the pressure pump and manually released pressure on the reverse, putting the gearbox back into Neutral.

- We placed the pressure pump back and tadam! Car started again.

Thank you again for all the help, it helped me to discard things in the vehicle.
