My 08 Grande Punto has recently developed a somewhat bizarre issue with the remote central locking. When I open the door with the remote or just the key by itself and then the close the door leaving no doors open, the central locking will self lock at a random time of between 5-10 seconds. It does this with all doors unless one is left open or I am seated in the car. Sometimes its helpful. Sometimes it is annoying. I am wondering if it is an issue or if I have accidentally entered a self locking mode if that exists. I looked at the 2012 manual in English but cannot find anything but because I live in Japan my 08 manual is in Japanese and I cannot read it. Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Steve.

The problem you described can be caused by not just one but few factors, like low remote battery level, the doors' central locking actuators gone bad, or car's canbus etc. Get your car to the local garage and get it fixed, this problem has almost no DIY fixes, as all these and and a few other things on the need to be checked out by a qualified technician. All the best.

Remove the battery from the remote for a start.

Ok, thanks for the information. Will be taking it down to my local dealer soon.
