Hello everyone, hopefully someone can help me. Just got back home from a long drive and noticed a rattling.

I'm no good with cars but I think it's the heat shield that's loose.

So a couple of questions.

1. Estimate price of fix
2. Is it worth fixing? (some people say no)

What engine?

You can always take a look in the engine bay to make sure. Don't be afraid.

I've just realised that my post is very vague due to me being under the impression I could post a photograph so I do apologise.

The piece of metal is by the exhaust and has nothing holding it on
 
hmm iirc there are 6 or 7 bolts (or studs with nuts).

All of them are gone?!? (One more post and you can upload images)
 
I could only see one bolt underneath and it's completely rusted.
 
Ah, you're talking about the rear shield. Very cheap part. I wouldn't remove it as it protects the boot area from high temps.
 
Any idea on the cost to fix? It looks like the bolt has completely corroded. I just spoke to a mechanic asking for him to come and see and he told me to pull it off.
 
Also... is there a risk it will fall off? I won't be able to get it fixed today but need to drive to work tomorrow.
 
Yes remove it if you can but replace it soon!

I'm not near a computer right now so I can't tell you exactly how much it costs.

Here is the sheet that I removed from under the car, there was a bolt on the other side, sheet was corroded there so came off easily. This definitely just protects the boot and not the fuel tank?

I was mistaken about the make as well sorry. It's the 8v active sport not 16v
 
No problem, I think the rear shield is the same on every model.

Yes it protects the whole area around there you are correct, that's why it's important to replace it.

But what does it actually protect? Just the boot?

The fuel tank isn't at risk is it?
 
No this shield is only to protect the boot area where the silencer is.

The fuel tank is not close to that area.
 
Thank you :) Do you want to fix it for me? :p

I've rang two mechanics for quotes and they both told me not to bother getting it fixed. I will call around a few more tomorrow.

Your help is been really appreciated :)
