and wondering if it should be OK for my 1.4 8V?

5w40, fully synthetic, ACEA A3/B4, read something about this being OK but not perfect in the FAQ's

I think so, but I'm a bit confused too! I have the same engine - Halfords website says 0w40. Jayar website says 5w40 PD, but surely it's not a PD engine?
I think I will go with QX 5w40 (fully synth) from Eurocarparts - it's about £20 for 5L...
