Hi folks... been a long time!

Now then, my youngests boyfriend has bought a 1.9 GP MJet that suffers with the whining in gears 1 & 2. I think its also mapped.
Replacement needed. Anyone in the Forum know where an exchange (rebuilt) box can be bought and fitted at for less than £1,000? :-o

I know as well (as a former owner) that the drop links and springs are a problem, but he's got an intermittent clunking from the front end that can be heard with the window open as well as inside the car. Its worse going slowly say on a motorway.

Any feedback appreciated....(y)

Now then! I don't know if I will be much use but, I also have the same problems with the gearbox although mine is worse as I have it in 5th and 6th.
It might be worth ringing a few gearbox specialists near your area, as I've been quoted £1100 for a full refurb including labour, might be less if it is only 1st and 2nd. You might find that the bearings in 5th and 6th might be on their way too.
So I hope this helps?

How's the Fiesta's going??

I managed to find one from a scrapy for £500 and changed the clutch and flywheel same time. Total came to just less than £1200

Hiya Jimbob!
I'm on my third now!
A nice "magnetic" ZSE 140.
No complaints at all mate.

Rather late to this thread, but I was coming on to discuss the M32, so thought I'd hijack this.

I had a whine in 5th and 6th in my 1.9 GP Sporting when not accelerating in those gears I.e. cruising at 30-40. There was also a whine in 2nd when going more slowly which I hadn't realised was as bad as it was.

Anyway, had the bearings replaced today at Halifax Gearbox and Clutch (http://www.hxgncc.com) for £350 and all quiet as new again. Dropped it off at 9:15, he ran me back into the centre of town and rang me at 12 to say it was done. I also thought the hub might be going as there was some play in 1st, but he confirmed they were alright, whereas he could have got away with doing them regardless.

Great service and a lot cheaper than a refurb gearbox. I was thinking of just running the GP until the gearbox exploded then scrapping it, as it's not worth spending £1000+ on whereas I can now sell it in good conscience or keep it a lot longer knowing it'll last.

He said he does 3 or 4 M32 gearboxes a week, so any issues, give them a try.
