Hi all,

I have a 2007 grande punto 1.2 active, 85k miles ish

I have recently had power/misfire issues with eml sometimes coming on.

Codes I have read myself with cheap reader are
-p0300 random/multiple misfire detected
-p0302 cylinder 2 misfire detected
-p0303 cylinder 3 misfire detected
-p0202 injector circuit - cylinder 2

A month ago there would be a very occasional loss of power accelerating(misfire?) with eml coming on intermittently.

A week ago it worsened with much more loss of power, occasionally running rough on tick over which I presume is a misfire?

Plugs, leads, coilpack and MAP sensor have been changed a couple of days ago. Car then ran fine for a couple of hours use, then this evening had same symptoms and is sounding rough constantly.

A year ago the cam belt was changed, this seemed to coincide with the start of the eml coming on every now and then and going off(misfire fault codes only but no physical symptoms).
I thought this was a false fault as I have read about a sensor misreading the misfire as the cam belt was not changed by fiat dealer.

Also a bit more history.... during a service it was noticed that an exhaust manifold bolt was missing/broken off and when the engine is cold it was blowing slightly (didnt know if this would affect anything and was left)

Please does anyone have any suggestions??
I dont want to have to waste money trying to eliminate problems

Many thanks.

Craig

Clear all the errors to make sure these are present and not past errors.

I have to ask, original new parts?

Classic, they had to perform a phonic wheel re-learn.

This must be fixed asap. Exhaust leak = wrong air/fuel mixture reading = missfire/eml etc.

Thanks for the reply.

As far as I can work it, these fault codes return after being cleared.

Yes all new, good quality parts. Bosch MAP sensor I think.

Two bolts missing on far left of manifold (from looking under the bonnet)
Am a bit worried how much this will cost? seems like bolts broke off inside as I cannot get the new studs in.
Could this be the main source of the problem? even if only leaking air on one cylinder? Are cylinders numbered from left to right looking from front of car?

Thanks
Craig

Number 1 is belt side, 2,3 and 4. (this is not the firing order but that's how it's numbered on obd etc)

Yes leaking manifold can cause a lot problems as I said because lambda sensor readings are wrong.

I don't know why you have this p0202 error (maybe an injector problem) but you have to fix the manifold issue first for sure.

ok thanks will try that also.

Just a quick question about the manifold leak, if old studs are removed will it be ok to just put the new studs in and tighten?? OR
Will a new gasket be needed and will the manifold need to be taken off for someone to drill out the broken studs?

Thanks

Hi, :)
studs don't tend to just break,,
normally it's down to torque from a spanner:rolleyes:

IF they are indeed sheared - then it's likely you'll need the manifold removed for access to withdraw the broken stubs..

normally they have a 50/50 chance of just winding out ,

UPDATE

Ok, so now the manifold bolts have been drilled out and replaced, plus new new gasket so all good there.
Performed the phonic wheel re learn.

After a a few test drives:
EML has gone off and so far not returned (however in the past it also went off for a time and then randomly came back on).
Performance is possibly better on average than before but there is still loss of power occasionally(sometimes a few seconds, sometimes a bit longer).

What would the next cheapest thing to try....?

Thank you

Feel free to ignore this post, its of secondary importance..

Sometimes when I look under the bonnet I can push the airbox down slightly on the throttle body as if it pops up a bit on its own but doesnt seem to lose its air seal. There would be no problem here??

And on another note, under the car I noticed a broken exhaust clamp just under the engine. Fiat sell it as part of the middle pipe and I cannot find one anywhere that looks like it would fit.
Any tips??

thanks

Try to clean the intake valve. (map sensor original part 100% ?)

On your broken exhaust clamp is that the one that joins to the bottom of the engine? I had that on my 1.2 I bought one off ebay, cut the old one off (had to angke grind it as it's welded on). Let me know and I'll have a look for the listing for the one I bought

Yes thats the one, looked like it had just rusted away.

Yes MAP sensor was bought from Eurocarparts, a few diifferent ones on there but mine was Bosch.

Not had any time to try anything else yet but on the last two short journeys it seemed to be constantly misfiring (no EML at all though!)

hi, don't know where you are based.? any chance there is water getting into electrical parts..?

I get this on our panda, I've been selective with contact cleaner on a few sensor plugs at a time,
restores function until it rains again..,
