Hi all,
My boot light has never worked and I've just gotten round to putting a multimeter onto the contacts and am coming back with 5.9 - 6.1 volts.
Does this mean that the light is 'off' according to the car and I'll need a new switch?
Or is there something else that could halve the voltage?
Cheers!

I have exactly the same problem, but with the fog light - about 6 volts getting to the bulb! It means there's a high resistance SOMEWHERE in the circuit. There are a bunch of eart wires that go on to a stud in the bottom, left hand (as you look at the back of the car) corner of the boot / inner wing area. You'll need to pull the carpets and rear panel trim off (maybe the side panel, I can't rememebr) to see them. Check that they're clean and tight. Checkthe switch by seeing that the voltage drops to zero when the boot closes. Also check the wires on to the switch itself to see if they're making good contact.

My boot light stopped working... Turned out to be a faulty boot catch. Boot still opened fine but the light never worked and the 'hatchback open' warning didn't come on on the dash, replaced the catch now it works fine!

Though I never tested to see if there was power at the light or not so can't comment on that.

Cheers guys!
Just checked again and I'm now getting 0 volts!
Being the tight-ass I am, I bought a cheap set of DRLs and wired them up to a switch in the boot for when I need light.
I'm pretty sure I've got a dodgey catch, even though I'm still get the 'hatchback open' warning!

Hi my daughters car boot light is not working
Reading this thread and one other it would seem when the boot is open there should be a message on the dash message centre? There is no message so I assume the signal from the latch/tailgate switch may not be working?
Fuse would seem ok as it also does the interior lights and they are fine.

The multi meter only gives me 0.04 volts across the bulb contacts.

I assume I will have to check the latch which means getting the tailgate trim off ? Is this easy as it's dark now.

There is the tailgate switch , large plastic plunger which looks like it would come off with a 13/14/15mm socket? Is this worth looking at first. Moving this did not change the voltage read out .

Any help or advice would be welcome, I have also checked the bulb which is ok

Everything else on the car seems to be working ok

This " plunger" is not a switch, it is simply a spring to pop the boot open slightly when unlatched. The switch which detects the boot open is part of the latch assembly. This microswitch is connected to the Body ECU and the signals it generates determines if the boot is open or closed and also serves to turn the light on and off. The ECU powers the light, not the switch wiring

Ok is it easy to get the latch off?
Are there any pictures or guides available to follow ?
Thinking of having a go at the weekend

Just looked on eBay and it looks like I will probably need a new lock unit.
Or are there parts available?

Had a look today without reading your guide and now the boot will not work but I get the message on the dash that the boot is open even though it is locked.
Wish I had not bothered and order a new lock.
Now I have read the guide I will order a new lock and fit it.
Thanks
