Wondering if anyone can help as I'm a bit puzzled. Two problems;

Firstly, my gearbox is being a swine... (again).

All of the gears seem fine whilst driving other than some forward and backward movement in 6th gear, but selecting them feels like I'm searching through a toolbox. I had the gearbox bearings replaced around a year ago. It's done no more than 6,000 miles since.

There is a whine in every gear, increasing in volume the faster I drive. Its there if i'm in gear or not, clutch engaged or not. This makes me wonder if the fault lies in the differential, drive shafts or wheel bearings. I can't feel any signs of play though. Nothing fouling against the wheel or shaft either. Its on the front nearside.

Had a quote done at local garage for a refurbished box sourced and fitted for £1000 including vat. I think this is fair, I don't want the bearings done just to have them go again next year. Just need to clarify if the bearings are uprated.

I also got a quote for the clutch and dual mass to be changed too seeing as the 'box is coming off. Plus it almost feels like there is a juddering spring noise coming from the flywheel when starting/stopping the engine - causing a kind of spluttering on start up and almost a run on, shuddering effect accompanied with a juddering sound from the area where the flywheel is when turning it off. This brings me to my second problem;

Going by my cars details, they told me that it has a single mass flywheel :confused:

I thought all the multijets had dual mass? I've found a very old thread on a different forum where this has happened to somebody else too but nobody came to a conclusion. It's the only case I have found other than mine.

Is there a chance that some models DID have single mass flywheels? Can anyone clarify this for me? My local fiat dealership is about as helpful as a broken gearbox :bang:

Thanks in advance...(y)

Sounds like the box has gone again. I had mine go a while ago and had the clutch and flywheel done at the same time and haven't had any problems since even thrashing it at the nurburgring
