Sorry folks.. Another m32 thread lol

My cars been whining in 3rd the most and in 4th slightly less but otherwise fine.

Anyway.. Picked up a good gearbox from a 50k GP for £100 so couldn't refuse it. I'm really not sure what to do though as mine started whining around this mileage and obviously don't want to put it in to be in the same position in 5k miles.

When people get faults fixed on these do they get the whole box done or just the faulty bearing? From what I have read online it seems that various parts of this gearbox can go so doing the whole gearbox would seem the best long term option even though it is OK at the moment.

Might even give it a go myself

That said, I'm probably getting a company car next year but my car will go to a family member

Mine appears to be developing issues too. Whining under load, goes when the clutch depressed and now getting a little clutch judder. Bloody car, seems like every weekend since I bought it, there has been something to be done!

I'd replace with a reconditioned unit rather than a second hand unit that, as you say, could develop the same issues quickly resulting in another bill. I believe it is something to do with a poor quality bearing(s), most recon boxes appear to have a solid bearings fitted. Going to get mine done in the next week or two, providing there are no special tools required I will probably do it with a mate at home.

Please report back if you get it changed, be interested to know current cost.

Cheers

Hi Alex,

Grande Punto 1.4 8v Petrol, Active Sport I think the model is.

Definitely something on the way out, symptoms as above and a little grinding going into gear. Can be difficult / requires a bit of force to engage 1st from neutral or 2nd when cold and grinds a little changing into 3rd. You can feel vibration through the stick when driving, this disappears when the clutch is depressed. Car has just under 60k on it, getting a little hacked off with it now. If things weren't constantly going wrong with it, it'd be great, nice to drive (occasionally).

Cheers

Ben

After hearing of peoples issues with gear changes I'm starting to wonder if I should just leave mine for now.. It whines yeah but works fine.. My clutch is probably near the end of its life so I might wait until it goes then do it all at once
