Hi all,
I am looking to buy a grande punto 1.4 t-jet sporting, anyone have anything to look out for when purchasing the car from their own experiences?

Thanks

Hi LordFox, thanks for the reply, will definitely look out for that.

Listen for a subtle induction/suction noise from the turbo. For about the first 3 months of owning mine I had a very high pitch noise under acceleration which I eventually diagnosed as leaking vacuum hoses supplying the turbo. Local garage replaced them all for under £20.
Also, the down pipe from the turbo has a ratchet style clip on it which started to loosen and was causing loss of pressure. Replaced it with a jubilee clip and was able to tighten it fully. ImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1435987577.943524.jpg

You'll gather by the trivial nature of the problems listed so far that not a lot goes wrong with the t-jet; it seems to be just about the most reliable of the grande puntos but there are a couple of things to look out for.
As with all puntos the brake servo mounting plate is prone to rust, its a cheap part but an awkward job to replace.
The 5speed gearbox will probably crunch when selecting reverse, this is normal as there is no synchromesh (select 1st before reverse to avoid crunch).
Diffs can give trouble on seriously lowered cars but I've not read of and going on standard cars.
As with all grandes rear wheel bearings go early but this is a cheap and easy fix.
The turbos seem to last well but evidence of regular oil changes is always good on a turbo car.
The 5speed t-jet gearbox doesn't suffer the bearing wear problems that affect the 6speed grandes.

When I got mine didn't know they did a t jet in the 1.4 otherwise that been my choice over the 1.4 8v I got. Still like the 8v though
