Hi all,

Recently bought a 1.6 mjet 120 grande punto sporting, only 26k on the clock. Had its 18k service done nearly 2 years ago, so I am going to get its second service done asap.

The car drives really well, the engine is really smooth and a pleasure to drive - surprisingly quiet for a diesel too.

Only thing I have noticed is that occasionally (I have noticed it 3 times in the 1,000 miles I've done in it) it kind of feels like it 'misfires' Each time it's happened it's been at just under 2,000 rpm, and when not under load, but when accelerating lightly to maintain speed. Hard acceleration at high and low revs while under load and up hill is very smooth and power delivery is fantastic.

It is impossible to replicate the 'misfire' as it happens very rarely and no fault codes are logged. However one of the times it happened I came to a stop just after, and noticed the dpf had gone into regen (revs were slightly higher and pulsing). So I'm wondering if it has something to do with the dpf?

Or if it does just need a good service? any ideas would be appreciated :)

Thanks

this sounds very similar to the problem I have posted just above yours fella... I don't think it is a misfire though and I have a 1.9 multijet... what I will say it sounds like for both of us the probel occurs just before the turbo boosts so it may just be a characteristic of the car... maybe a remap to make the power delivery more linear... This is just me pondering though, maybe someone who knows for certain can come along and shine some light on the situation?

I had wondered about the turbo. I am also planning to give the EGR a good clean and get a service done to see if that makes any difference.

I'm not hugely worried as the overall performance is fantastic.

If it's before turbo boost then make sure that the pipes are on correctly and no slits within the pipe. Giving the egr a clean won't hurt. I don't have a gp diesel so couldn't comment if could be anything else of just a general thing with them.

I think a lot of diesels do this under light acceleration at a certain point, part of emissions controls etc.

I noticed it in my GP 1.9 and have also noticed it on my Focus 2.0tdci also.

Have also noticed over the last couple of days there's a definite lag in the turbo. If you set off with a few revs on its fine, however if you don't put many revs on its very slow to pull away then as you approach 1.5k revs the power kicks in... Much less noticeable when engine has warmed up.

So definitely going to give the egr a good clean when I get chance, however it seems to be well hidden on the back of the engine on the 1.6 multijet! Access looks very tight so I'll have lots of fun doing that! No fault codes are logged so I'm hoping a good clean should sort it.

The lag went away after a few weeks after I did quite a few long journeys however every now and then there is still a 'Misfire' at 2000rpm and it does occasionally have a bit of turbo lag when cold - nothing major though.

Car is getting a service & egr cleaned out on Wednesday so I'll post an update then.

I have a similar thing with my 1.9. Almost feels like a hiccup when accelerating very lightly. I used to get it quite regularly, cleaned the EGR and it happens very rarely now so that would be the first place to go.

As for lag from cold, mine's always been the same, I think that's just a characteristic of a cold diesel.
