Hi

The other day my grande Punto took awhile to start, also a few weeks back the milage on the screen started to flash. Are these signs I need a new battery?

I believe the current battery is the original which makes it 7 years old.

I phone Fiat today asking for a price for a new battery, they told me they sell 2 batteries for my car one which is 40 something amp and the other 80 something amp. Ranging between £60 - £80.

Which size amp would I need for my car?

My car is Fiat Grande Punto 1.2 petrol 5 door 2008

Do you think Fiat would charge me to fit the new battery and dispose the old one?

Also is £60 for a new battery a good price?

Many Thanks.

hi,
need more info..??

battery rating depends on your car, and the kit on it,

biggest is Stop/start

then Clutchless gearbox ("automatic")- Dualogic..,

aircon maybe..,

40 Amps sounds TINY..!!

TBH put your reg into europarts site,, and post a link to the battery it recommends ; - ),

202 is the size /description standard.

here is the Euro range
http://www.eurocarparts.com/202-car-batteries

Bosch S4 is excellent value,
tip - enter Bosch S4 202 into Ebay - Europarts have several accounts ( carparts4less,etc)

you may well find a great deal AND local collection OR free delivery

bought my older punto batteries this way..!!

Would you recommend Bosch, Duracell or a genuine Fiat Battery?

Many Thanks.

TBH ,
BOSCH S4(y)

the FIAT will be an o.k. battery with a FIAT cover..,

the Duracell MAY be better,??never seen one on a car before:eek:
sure it'd be good in a VW golf ( "rabbit") :D:rolleyes: LOL,:ROFLMAO:

Charlie

EDIT - it's your money, buy what you want..,
BUT- the Bosch has the better ,established, reputation AND is probably the cheapest..

Okay thank you.

If I order one from euro parts how do I fit the battery and what do I do with my current battery?

Many Thanks.

battery changing is simple..:) BUT potentially hazardous-so well done for asking..,Safety glasses / some eye protection is a GOOD IDEA- as some risk of arcing..,

familiarise yourself with YOUR car's battery connections + layout - youtube guides may help too;)

unlock car, undo + support bonnet, put key in your pocket..!!(y)

you undo the BLACK "earth cable" and swing away from battery- battery is now SAFE as there is no "circuit",

undo RED positive cable, and swing away( put plastic bag / tape over - to ensure it';s insulated,
then use a socket to undo the CLAMP - down the side of battery ; - )

battery can now be lifted out of car--IT'S HEAVY..!!:(

wipe out bottom of battery tray, access is good..,(y)

put new battery in ( same direction)

fit clamp to side ( fiddly):(

then refit RED cable to + symbol positive battery pole / terminal, and tighten;)

then BLACK to - = negative terminal ( you have remade the circuit) = so may get a minor spark + clunk from electronic devices.., normal..!!

wait a second.. if all seems fine,
walk to cabin, put key in ign, turn to 1st stage , check lights come on dash,
if good, turn back off and then tighten battery clamps fully,

now start engine - should be fine

once car is all up + running - job done (y)

you can take OLD battery to local recycling centre ( "tip") for free,
or you will get a few quid from a metal salvage yard.
