Having very kerbed and very corroded sporting alloys, I've decided to bite the bullet and refurb them myself. Bought the equipment, paint, lacquer, filler, primer, wet and dry etc. Having brought one in the house some of the lacquer is really starting to peel. Can I just sand down the peeling bits, or do I need to use nitromors or something. Have looked at getting them sand blasted but seems expensive and would have to then sand down the whole alloy. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Are they the earlier fork type with the diamond cut finish? If so you'll never be able to repair the finish and will have to paint the front face of all the wheels.
 
If you flat it back to where it's adhered and feather it well it should be OK.
It usually peels when moisture gets in to a stone chip or break in the paint/laquer.
 
Thanks both. I'll try feathering the loose bits. The alloys are the old one, look lovely but corrode so badly. I'll give that a go, will post some pics once I've done the first
 
None near me that I can find. I bit the bullet, feathered as much as I can and have sprayed them. Well sprayed one, the rest are still to do. Been a lot cheaper, if they don't come out great I'll look into it
