I was on the motorway the other day and I wanted to give my sporting a good run, however after coming off the motorway and onto 40mph roads my car was not pulling well, it was like the turbo wasn't kicking in, I pulled up, flipped the bonnet and asked my girl friend to rev while I looked, it wouldn't rev very high, I couldn't see anything obvious but while I was driving it didn't sound to good, however I turned the ignition off and then waited a bit, I then turned the ignition back on and started the car to see if any engine lights came on. None, I then pulled away and she was back! What on earth caused this??

Did you mange to find out what this fault was? I am having the exact same thing happen to mine?

Was that the car that came back? Or the girl friend...?

Hi mate, I've noticed it only happens when I have gone through the gears quickly and possibly when the engine isn't at its peak (heatwise and oil circulation etc) and I personally think its a safe mode to stop you over revving and causing damage/premature wear to the engine!

I may be wrong but it hasn't happened to me for a while

....... touch wood!!

I do put Diesel treatment regularly (Redex) and find this greatly increases the cars pulling and running!

Just out of interest what is the usual scenario of it happening to you??

And about her coming back it was my baby blue eyes (my car :ROFLMAO:)

Hope this helps!!

redex making any noticeable difference does point to some issue, ;)

IF it was a proper "limp-home" scenario - you would get an EML AND stored fault code..what have you found..??

The car does go well without Redex but I like the extra power when I put my foot down!! Could all be psychological I guess

I guess I could get it scanned as we're sadly in the 21st century where everythings computers.... Gone are the days when you could flip the bonnet and see for yourself!!

Anyway atleast I'm not the only one that's had it happen and I hope to hear more about it if it is actually an issue.

so - have you actually seen an engine / warning light..??
no light means there may be no fault code:eek:

one thing worth doing almost straight away is checking the main battery to gearbox earth lead..they can corrode internally, lack of electrical circuit can really confuse the cars electronics - as you'll probably , know it take a lots to actually STOP a diesel..but messing about with it's power is relatively simple.:(

double check the fusebox under bonnet is bone dry too..!!;)

No warning light! Think I've rectified the problem and you were on the right track as it was electrical! So what it was I'd get in my car sometimes after a drive and turn the ignition, it would then completely cut out! I wiggled the terminals on the battery and wazaaam it started! It took me a while to realise and at first I ythought it was an earth as it was quite loose on the terminal so I took it completely off and cleaned the connections and battery and then copper greased it and put it back on, got in and it did the same as before...... Damn :bang:

After this I looked at the live and this was not even tight so every time I would have gone over a bump boom it would have rattled it and most probably the cause of the engine power loss!!! I did the same with this as the earth and tightened it nicely, cleaned it all up and copper greased it, got in the car and it started!

Been running sweet as a nut since and had no problems what so ever.... Touch wood!! She's going like a dream :D

Good..!!:)

a word of warning.., ;)
MANY years ago, I had an old fiesta van, battery died..bought another,
ran around for a week, then had a trip of @40 miles to collect bike parts,
on the way back I decided to slipstream a coach ( youth..!!))

back then the National Express jobs did 90 in the outside lane..

so anyway my little 1100 cc Ka engine was revving quite hard..4 speed g-box

got home nice and quick.., went to go out that evening..vehicle was DEAD,
turned on radio - worked fine,
but didn't even get lights on the dash..

next day took the "dodgy" battery back, the shop owner said.."NO CHANCE you've COOKED it..!!", and showed me where the LEAD battery terminals were partially MELTED - the alternator was overcharging..and putting so much power out at 90MPH it'd melted the lead away from the terminal leads.

SOUND FAMILIAR..??:D

Just an update on this issue (I know it's been a while).

So I went for a drive yesterday (about 160 mile trip) and about 40 miles in the limp mode kicked in (usually happens when I need the BHP most

). I did the usual and she came back to life! A few more miles on she did it again and this time an engine management light
banghead.gif

However she seemed on and off on and off all the way to my destination! (I did check all my fluid levels etc as soon as the light appeared so I wouldn't kill her

I knew it wasn't an urgent fault as I couldn't here any bad noises or smell anything bad, I got it into the garage today... Suspected mass airflow sensor (MAF) however there's no chance I'm paying them £140 for the part so I went on eBay found a really good one for £49.00 including postage phoned the garage and pleaded poverty and they seem to be ok with it!

I'm currently waiting to hear back and if it is any other problem or damage I'll update you! I hope this helps as it's been a real problem for me the last few months and hopefully this sorts it for good!!!

The other thing I thought is loose connections on the live terminal as it seems a bit loose even though I've tightened it up previously and that seemed to cure it for quite some time! So if the MAF replacement doesn't cure it I'll be getting some new terminals and giving it a good clean etc on the connections!!
