Hi, was just wondering what the best spec oil to service my engine with was? Semi or fully synthetic and should I use 5w40 or 10w40, I will refer to the owners manual but am only home at weekends!

Also what are the oil filters like as I have never serviced this car before or a fiat and was wondering whether the filters were fully changeable or just needed the paper element replacing as that's what is listed on Micks Garage and eBay!

Thanks :D

Go to shop4parts.co.UK you'll find everything for service for fiat. I got fiat recommended oil this time round due to wasn't much more than castrol oil which fully synthetic. I've had castrol magnetic before liked it (diesel focus).

I got Selena oil (due to petrol) but can get it for diesels. You'll need 5w-40 by the way.

Ive only used shell mineral. Oil comes down to personal choice. Shell castrol and manufacture one usually good choices. Castrol is what ford use (magnetic in diesels). Usually get manufacture oil cheap if look around google.

Most filters will do good job but can pay upwards of 60 for performance air filter. For glow plugs NGK are good but I like Bosch ones (again my preference)

Be looking at 64.89 with discount for manufacture air, fuel (7 pound more than UDF), oil filters and a magneti marelli pollen filter (if need it). Plus oil.

If went all highest priced filters on eurocarparts looking at 68.52 these include Mann filter, crosland filter and premium filters. I've had crosland before and was alright an think had Mann too. Shell helix is top shell oil if I remember right and its 24.99 at eurocarparts so cheaper than ebay

I've heard that GSF and Euro car parts are really bad with customer service! Anyway I've found quite a good kit on eBay!! Can't afford it yet so will probably find better!

Have a look under the car. If you're exhaust is standard but doesn't have a dpf it'll have a precat straight off the turbo, a cat, a silencer the a back box. So in the middle of the car there should be 2 boxes (main cat and 1st silencer), if it has dpf it will just be 1 box here rather than 2 and that's the dpf.

Dpf is a diesel partical filter. It stops all the rubbish from the exhaust and then burns it off over time by regeneration. Some (not sure if gp does) cars have an additive that needs renewing over time. If went to a dealer be looking at around 1000 or so. Unless having issues or really needs doing it's not viable to do (unless like extra costs).

Sometime during the life cycle of the car it will need replacing. Its a requirement on all diesel engines in the EU for the manufacturer to put one on (think came into force 2010). This is to meet euro v requirements.

You can fail the mot if its not there
