Punto 2007 1.2 petrol, cuts out when coming to an over 3000rpm stop, sometimes oil light only flickers when stopping from about 3000rpm  but when stopping after high speed of about 60-70mph it cuts out when stopping :bang: I can drive miles and miles without stopping fine, low speeds and low revs fine, it does not cut off. Please help, I have seen a few threads here but this seems to be different?

Only when the car is stopped?

So you can drive @ 60-70mph without gear with the engine idling, but when you come to full stop the engine dies?

Only when I am stopping after bigger speed with around 3000+rpm thats when its cuts off, if I ma at a give way sometimes I just kick start it in second gear or if stopping have to use ignition. It starts right away.

As I will be coming to a stop after some distance of about a mile at say 60mph, the engine dies as I am about to stop at around 10mph . Surprisingly doesnt seem to be happening all the time

Hi, just to clarify..,

is it just losing the ability to tick over / idle,

or is it losing POWER , either engine , or electrical as you slow down( BEFORE you're actually going down to 1st gear..??),

Idle control circuit sounds likely.. BUT need more info;)

Could be a map sensor related problem.

Start with cleaning it.

There's a guide somewhere here if you search it

Also, try not to clutch-in last moment but with rpm > 1500rpm

It cuts out before I come to a full stop. It cuts off, oil and battery lights come on. I normally stop in second gear with clutch depressed but also it happens before a full stop but around less than 10mph after a high speed. Normal 30mph its fine.

Also noticed it happens if I stay in same cruising gear, number 5 or 4 for a distance of roughly +/- half a mile?

Just to say, I have taken it for a spin clutch in before I get to 1500rpm and the idle drops just flickers the battery light once as if its cutting off around 500rpm but then wouldnt, comes back to around idling point 1000rpm

Depending on the setup, there is likely to be a idle control valve in the throttle body. This is supposed to control the idle speed and catch the engine when dropping from higher speeds, to prevent stalling. Yours might be sticky.
Off with the air cleaner and some careful use of carb cleaner might effect a cheap cure.

If it needs replacing, from Fiat its a complete throttle body, but search Ebay, I've seen them for a Panda some time ago, but not needed one, so didn't bookmark it.

Might also be simply needs some new plugs.

Thanks will have a go on it tomorrow, cleaning the throttle body. I managed to remove the MAP sensor and it was dirty and I cleaned it using a carb cleaner but still havent changed, other than cleaning the map sensor, the throttle body, is there anything else I should look out to clean? Maybe I need a new MAP sensor as I dont know how to test it?

There is no Idle control valve.

Try cleaning the throttle body.

Btw do you have a stable idle?

If you have an obd adaptor, check fuel trims.

The idle doesnt seem right from the rear exhaust end, its a bit hesitant also there is a slight shack on the engine but if I accelerate it sounds normal. It also struggles to go to 70mph, it need a longer distance than normal to reach 70mph. Its slow peaking?

Hmmm

This could be a lot then.

Check every sensor values (water/air temp etc), lambda output, search for air leaks (fuel trims values)

You can inspect these values with an obd adaptor.

What's the mileage?

I cleaned the throttle body, breathing pipe was very dirty, solid stuff, had to do an engine flush, new plugs, still no change its still idling with a slight misfire and cuts off when stopping after high speed:bang: Should I change the throttle body:confused:

Ok.
Let me ask you something, can you rev the engine more than 5000rpm? (don't reach limiter)

Is there any random check engine light?

Get an elm obd adaptor to check the values

No warning light coming on. Yes it can reach 5000rpm if I rev it. Since after flashing, new oil, filter, plugs, cleaning breather it had improved in power BUT the turning off by itself at stopping and very slightly misfire??

I have put it on a SNAP ON and came up with 172H/370 UNDOCUMENTED CODE, 136H/310 UNDOCUMENTED CODE:confused::confused:

aah these codes again...

I'm not sure what these codes means, if you can switch to Pxxxx style.

Have you noticed any difference between the old spark plugs?
Maybe a blocked or leaking injector?

You have to read the values I said.
intake air temp, coolant temp, fuel trims etc.

Maybe have to ask a mate with the snap on to read the intake air temp, coolant temp, fuel trim. I was thinking to get another used throttle body and a MAP sensor, do you think they might have effect to this if one is faulty?
