Hi everybody

I'm thinking of buying 2008 Grande Punto from an acquaintance and I hope to learn more about the possible service and maintenance costs I would have to pay for such a car. Here are some details about it: 1.4 petrol engine, 77 HP, 63 000 miles, manual air conditioning, abs, ba, airbags, heated mirrors, electrical front windows, servo steering with 2 modes (not sure what this means). The guys tells me he took good care of her and took it to the service in due time. He's asking for 2700 euros...

What maintenance costs will I have after I buy it? I heard the distribution kit has to be replaced every 2 years or something like that... What else and how much would it cost me? And what should I look for when I go see the car?

Thanks a lot. Cheers (y)

I personally would be asking about service history and oil changes.

Running costs are cheap and easy diy stuff on the service side , it will be due a cam belt and oil pump in 10 k or so. Parts have just cost me £60 and been charged £60 to do it.

How much in pounds sterling ?

Thanks for the reply nikrox. It's about 2000 pounds. I currently drive a 1.2 Vauxhall Corsa D, which as far as I know shares the platform with Grande Punto and I'm quite happy with it.

Sorry didn't answer your question about steering. Basically youhave two options on the steering..normal for everyday driving and a 'city' mode which makes the steering even lighter to allow for parking etc

I have the same engine and the same features you mentioned.

For me its been the most reliable car i've had. Nothing has gone wrong and i'm at 80000 miles. The cam belt should have been done by now so make sure that has been changed.

As for running costs, services are fairly cheap. Only ever need things like the tyres changed and things like that. I do seem to go through brake pads quickly but thats probably more my driving style and not the actual parts. I average 35mpg but can get more if I drive carefully. The most i've ever been able to average was 40mpg but I was driving very very carefully.

TBH I don't know when cam belts due to be changed BUT was told by my mechanic mate, via AUTODATA, that its 75k.

If its not what Fiat say Im getting it sorted asap on my daughters car.

35-40 mpg sounds good. Thanks for the feedback folks. You have such a nice community on this forum (y).
