Hello,

Needing some help with my GP 1.9 mjet. Had to jump start it for the past few days and now doesn't go with a jump or push start. Had the AA out yesterday who checked the battery, alternator and starter and all were fine. He played about with the starter relay and car jumped in to life, now this morning i am getting nothing, no dash lights and car not even locking with remote.

Anyone any ideas?

Sounds like a dodgy battery to me, can you charge it overnight and then test?

Changed the battery and started no worries, car is now dead again, battery has over 12 volts. The light with the car and a padlock is not going off. Troed jump start and bumping it, still nothing.

Anymore ideas?

Probably the alternator is not charging the battery

All checked out fine, the aa guy checked. He said it could be the key that might need to be recoded

Tried the secondary key ?

If the battery is new charge it to 12.6v = full (~12v = dead)
And try again.
If you can start it again with a charged/new battery, check voltage asap. You want to see ~14v idle.

ps, Don't push start the car never again

Not yet, will try the secondary key tomorrow.

Battery has 12.67v when tested and over that when idle.

Im totally stumped

Back again,

Car still not starting, not even with new battery or jump. Checked all the relays & fuses and all are fine. Car will turn over whilst being jumped but not kicking into life.

battery is draining so quick whilst jumping.

Anyone any ideas?

Check your earthing points. Also when I had my focus 1.8 diesel an that was intermittent starting turned out that my egr valve was stuck open. Hence why wasn't kicking over. It's worth a look

All checked and cleaned to ensure a solid connection.

Will take the EGR valve off and give a good check over. Other forums are saying maybe the crank sensor???

Yeah a crank sensor can cause issues. You had a diagnosics done? An cleaning a egr valve won't sort the issue if its stuck open or closed. Get someone turn the car over why looking at the egr valve see if it open and closes. If stuck open then close it an try again. If starts then the egr has gone

I have done yeah, fault code reader never brought anything up. Will have a go at the egr valve

I'd change the crank sensor first.

I'd agree with g8rpi on changing crank sensor before egr valve (lot cheaper an more likely what's happening). Like Andy Monty said check the electrical gremlins FAQ before buy any new parts. Problem with fault code readers is they are generic readers. I personally use multiecu scan has its fiat based so get more detail an more likely find something. (There two types DTC can that can be done via it. I've had one show no errors and other with errors). Hopefully you'll sort it soon enough

Hey, changed crank sensor and still nothing, egr valve works fine. Car turning but its like the battery is draining too quickly to get it to start. Thats 2 new batteries and a heavy duty hi-lux battery tried and still nothing.

Have you checked fusebox for water/corrosion under/inside it ?

the "AA Man" suggested it was the key,
suggesting the vehicle is immobilised..,

are you 100% sure it's not the key's chip that's NOT being recognised by the ECU..did you get to try the 2nd key..??

Yup removed the fuse box and all dry and clean. 2nd key does the same. All fuses, relays all checked fine.

so the keycode / immob symbol comes on at ign point, then goes out with other "check lights",
