Should the city button on the dash light up when you press it?. Although the steering wheel lights up on start up(in the dash pod) I don't know if its actually working..any ideas?

If the bulb is working then yes. If the system is actually working the steering should get appreciatively lighter. Can't remember what other differences it makes.

There is no light on the button but it should come up on your dash. The difference when city mode is on is noticible especially when the car is stationary

If you start the car with the button turned off and turn the steering wheel left and right then turn on city mode and turn the wheel left and right you will notice the difference. The steering will be a lot lot lighter when city mode is on

Thanks for the heads up..just checked and its working.

No probs.

Its also worth noting that city mode will turn off when you go over a certain speed (I think its something like 37mph but could be wrong!)

The light will stay on anyway and when you dip back down to a lower speed city mode will come on again (y)

There are some threads worth reading about using City mode too much as that seems to cause strain on the electrics and the steering motor

I've seen those threads too but i'd take them with a pinch of salt, i've not seen anyone come up with any reliable evidence to say that using city mode too much has caused any damage to their car.

I have city mode on half the time anyway. Half my time is spent getting through commuter traffic in cities or I have it on when going to down the bendy country lanes where I live and its been absolutley fine. I have had other electrical issues but they are in no way connected to having city mode turned on (One issue was caused by a burnt wire behind the dash and the other was a blown resistor for the heaters)

EDIT: But it is worth pointing out you dont need city mode on all the time, once you start really moving you dont notice the difference anyway
